(Minghui.org) Mr. Zheng Xiangxing, from Tangshan City, Hebei Province, was illegally arrested for persisting in his belief in Falun Gong. He now has a brain disability, due to being severely tortured in Baoding Prison.
Mr. Zheng's family has been requesting his release for medical treatment since October 2012. Not only have prison officials denied the request, more than 20 guards brutally beat his wife, Ms. Sun Suyun, on January 3, 2014.
Mr. Zheng's mother and wife went Baoding Prison on the morning of January 3, 2014, and asked to see deputy head Fan Jianli to request that Mr. Zheng be released on medical grounds. Fan didn’t come out until 5:00 p.m. When he did, he shouted, “Why the hell are you looking for me? I’m not in charge of his case. If you keep this up, we will not release him for medical treatment. I will refuse!” He turned around and walked away.
Mr. Zheng’s wheelchair-bound mother, who's in her eighties, tried to follow him. Ms. Sun was afraid for her safety and held her onto her wheelchair.
Ms. Sun followed Fan up the stairs. When she reached the third floor, a guard stopped her and pushed her back towards the stairway. Two other guards came up the stairs and held her down. The stairway was soon filled with more than 20 guards.
Some grabbed her hair, and others pulled her arms behind her back. One guard kicked the backs of her knees, and she rolled down to the second floor. She hit her head in the scuffle, was foaming at the mouth, and had a seizure.
Her son came showed up then and yelled, “What have you done? You are murdering people!”
An ambulance was called, and she had to have emergency treatment. The guards took out a camcorder and began to record Ms. Sun.
Despite Ms. Sun’s serious condition, the prison officials told her son to take her to a hospital. He replied that they couldn’t afford it, because they had received no income for more than a year. Prison official Zhou said, “Go to the hospital. I’ll have someone go with you.” Ms. Sun was then carried to the ambulance and taken to the Baoding First Hospital.
Ms. Sun's condition worsened in the hospital. She kept vomiting and had a severe headache. The doctors took a CT scan. Hou Yongjun, head of the prison hospital who was sent to accompany Ms. Sun, was afraid he would be held responsible for her injuries. He left before the scan was finished.
The scan showed no cerebral hemorrhage, but the doctors suggested that she rest and have an infusion. Ms. Sun didn’t stay, and went home with her son. Mr. Zheng’s mother was indignant at the way the prison staff had attacked her daughter-in-law.
Mr. Zheng was arrested on February 25, 2012, and sentenced to ten years in prison as part of the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) continued persecution. After two months in Baoding Prison, his skull was fractured on the left side due to severe torture.
To cover it up, prison officials arranged for Baoding First Hospital to operate on him twice without his family’s knowledge or consent. Mr. Zheng was left with a serious brain disability.
In order to rescue him, his family has waited in front of the prison and asked that he be released for medical treatment. They also requested an investigation to determine who was responsible for fracturing Mr. Zheng's skull.
Mr. Zheng's family has suffered tremendously throughout this process. Besides their financial difficulties, they have often been abused, harassed, and threatened by the police and prison officials.
