(Minghui.org) Mr. Kang Changjiang was a high school teacher in Shuangcheng City, Heilongjiang Province, who was sent to Hulan Prison because he practiced Falun Dafa. Mr. Kang's health is deteriorating, and he had not eaten for more than ten days at the time of this report. His family tried to visit him in prison but were refused.

Mr. Kang is in his fifties and was a senior language teacher at the Third High School of Shangcheng City. He became a Falun Dafa practitioner in 1996. On November 13, 2011, a dozen men broke into his home. Without identifying themselves as police or showing a search warrant, they handcuffed Mr. Kang and another practitioner to chairs. They then ransacked the home and confiscated a computer, a monitor, two laptop computers, a printer, a projector, a scanner, an MP3 player, and several cell phones and external hard drives.

Mr. Kang was detained in the first ward of Hulan Prison. A prison guard called Mr. Kang's family at 9:30 a.m. on February 3, 2014, to inform them that he was suffering from a severe anal abscess (infection around the anus). The guard said that Mr. Kang needed to be hospitalized quickly, and asked the family to bring money. When the family brought the money, Zhang Zhongyun, captain of the first ward of Hulan Prison, refused to release Mr. Kang for medical treatment, saying that he was on vacation and couldn't process the request. He also refused to give Mr. Kang medical probation, with the excuse the he was a Falun Gong practitioner.

Mr. Kang's family found Zhang Zhongyun on the morning of February 7, 2014. He wanted the family to pay right away and wanted to send Mr. Kang to the Heilongjiang Province Prison Administrative Bureau Hospital. The family disagreed and wanted to take Mr. Kang to a hospital of their choosing.

The family went to Hulan Prison on the morning of February 10, 2014, and asked to see the deputy warden. Only two guards met with them, and they insisted that they hand over the money before Mr. Kang would be released. The family tried to reason with them, but to no avail.

Family Threatened

The family returned to the prison again in the afternoon and met with a deputy warden whose last name was Nan. Nan said that if the family felt that Mr. Kang was wrongfully imprisoned, they should go to the Procuratorate to appeal. He threatened to call the police if the family continued making a scene. He then called Zhang Zhongyun. Zhang had the family go home to raise more money, and forced them to leave.

That night Mr. Kang's younger brother received a call from Zhang Zhongyun, who threatened that if they went to Hulan Prison asking for Mr. Kang's release, he would call the local 610 Office to have them arrested.

Mr. Kang is now in the prison hospital. His anal abscess is very serious, and the hospital doesn't have the ability to operate. The prison doctor gave him anti-inflammatory medication and has to remove syringes of blood and pus from the wound each day. To avoid defecation, Mr. Kang has only been given liquids, and has relied on intravenous injections to sustain his life since January 24, 2014. He is weak and bedridden.
