Baoding Court Tries But Fails to Frame Ms. Kong Hongyun

February 24, 2014 |   By a Minghui correspondent from Hebei Province, China

(Minghui.org) The Xinshi District Court and Procuratorate in Baoding City held a hearing at the Baoding Detention Center on February 12, 2014, in an attempt to persecute Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Kong Hongyun.

Ms. Kong had been arrested in the morning of January 4, 2014 by officers from the Baoding City Xinshi District Jingxiu Park police substation for passing out discs clarifying the facts about Falun Gong.  She was sent to the Baoding Detention Center the same night.

Several dozen judicial officers, police and plainclothes officers gathered at the Baoding Detention Center, located in Qingyuan County, Baoding City, on the morning of February 12. Ms. Kong was escorted to a meeting room on level 2 at around 10 a.m. Both of her hands were cuffed behind her and she was limping. Wang Lan, prosecutor from the Xinshi District Procuratorate, and presiding judges Li Qiang, Zhao Jie and Jia Can from the Xinshi District Court held the hearing.

Ms. Kong was very emaciated, her face was bruised and swollen, and she could not hear out of one ear. Her mother came from her hometown after being discharged from the hospital, and she could not hold back her tears upon seeing her only daughter in such a condition.

The court officers allowed Ms. Kong's mother to attend the hearing but they would not let her daughter in, claiming that she was too young. Prosecutor Wang Lan was arrogant in presenting her evidence, apparently not expecting any opposition. However, the Beijing attorney refuted the evidence piece by piece, and the charges made by police officers were not proven.

The police fabricated a number of things to try to frame Ms. Kong, including transcripts of her interrogation. The court adjourned the trial at 11 am on the grounds of insufficient evidence.
