(Minghui.org) Editor's note: The author is a Falun Gong practitioner who was persecuted in China before escaping to the U.S. in 2009. However, her fiancée is still in China, being persecuted. Her account is described in the article How a Physician Suffered from Persecution.
Tian Yunhai has been detained in prison since 2005 for refusing to give up his belief in Falun Gong, and he is currently incarcerated at Shenyang Prison. Yunhai's mother told me he looks completely different now (due to mistreatment). As his fiancée, I am very worried for his health and safety.
I first met Yunhai in 2005. We are both Falun Gong practitioners, and had a shared goal to tell people about the persecution of Falun Gong. We helped each other during the difficult time when we were facing persecution. I cherished the time we spent together, even though it was short.
Yunhai worked in the No. 13 Bureau of the Dalian Railroad System. However, because of his belief, he lost his job and was forced to sell things on the street. Despite financial difficulties, he bought some children's storybooks for me, as he knew I was working in the outpatient pediatric clinic.
Because he had to frequently move from place to place to avoid being persecuted, he lost his graduation certificates. As a result, life was difficult, but he remained optimistic and continued to tell people about the persecution.
Moved by his optimism, I gained some confidence that people will learn about the persecution one day. I continued my studies while working and obtained my physician qualification. Because of my belief, I was fired from my job, but managed to find a new one. Our support for each other during these tribulations was truly valuable.
I brought Yunhai to my house for a meal to introduce him to my mother. My mother was assured of his character after learning that he was also a practitioner. Everyone was happy to know that he was a good person. My elder sister's son was very young and shy at that time. When he met Yunhai, he was so happy that he danced with joy and became very fond of him.
I was arrested on July 1, 2005, shortly after we met, on my way home from work. I was detained for 15 days in Dalian Detention Center before being released. I was later informed that Yunhai had also been arrested that day. My heart bled upon hearing this. I knew that Falun Gong practitioners faced brutal torture and even death while imprisoned.
Yunhai's family and I discussed hiring a lawyer for him. However, before we could do anything, we were handed a document notifying us that he had been sentenced to ten years of imprisonment. A trial had been held without informing his family.
In 2006, Yunhai was transferred from the Dalian Detention Center to Dalian Wafangdian Prison. Within less than a month he was transferred again to Panjin Prison in Liaoning Province. In the prison, he tried to prevent the police from beating other practitioners. In return, he was tortured with electric batons and tiger bench torture. He went on a hunger strike for eight months to resist the persecution.

Yunhai's parents and I tried to visit Yunhai, but were denied many times. When we finally saw him, he could barely talk and was quickly taken away.
I would like to appeal to all good people to lend a helping hand to rescue Yunhai and all Falun Gong practitioners who are still imprisoned in China.
