(Minghui.org) Mr. Chen Baohan is a Falun Gong practitioner from Hanzhong City, Shanxi Province. He was arrested by police officer Yu Jin and others from the Domestic Security Division of the Hantai District, Hanzhong City, when he appealed to be reinstated at work on September 10, 2012. He was detained in the Guozhen Forced Labor Camp in Baoji City.
After the announcement that the labor camp system in China was being shut down, most labor camps were disbanded. However, Mr. Chen was still not released. He is said to be the only Falun Gong practitioner left in the Guozhen Labor Camp.
Mr. Chen's family went to see him at the labor camp in late October 2013. When they arrived, authorities at first refused to allow them to see him. After extended negotiations, Mr. Chen's mother finally got to see her son, who was dark and thin. She was very sad and asked when he would be released. His keepers replied, “You have to ask your 610 Office.”
Hidden 610 Office Uncooperative
After looking everywhere, Mr. Chen's family finally found the office hidden in an old area of Hanzhong City Hall.
The family saw an old banner hanging above the door of the office with the words: “Anti-Cult, We Benefit People and Country.” A family member asked, “Is this the 610 Office?”
A tall male official looked very shocked and said, “How did you get in? Who are you?” He turned around and asked his colleagues, “This is very strange. How did they find us?” Then he asked the family, “What do you want?”
Mr. Chen's relative said, “I am a member of Mr. Chen Baohan's family. Labor camp officials in Baoji City told us that if you agree to his release, they would let him go.”
A female official asked, “How can we verify that you are his family? Do you have proof?”
When the relative asked, “How can we prove it?” She said, “Bring your ID!”
Another family member asked, “Will you release him after we bring the ID?”
Mr. Chen's younger sister said, “I will bring my ID tomorrow. I am his sister. We hope that you can release him soon. It is getting cold and he is the only Falun Gong practitioner left there. Our mother misses him very much. Please help us.”
The family brought their IDs the following day, but Mr. Chen was still not released.
Arrested and Sentenced
Mr. Chen's home was ransacked by the 610 Office and the Domestic Security Division of Hanzhong City on September 10, 2012, because he appealed for reinstatement of his public employment. The police arrested him at his workplace and detained him in the Hantai District Detention Center.
The police lied to his family that he would be released after the 18th CPC National Congress. The Hanzhong City Forced Labor Committee sentenced Mr. Chen to 18 months of forced labor, without any documentation, on September 26, 2012. His family firmly believed in his innocence and looked for justice. They were not allowed to see him in the Hanzhong Forced Labor Camp.
Obstruction of Justice
When his family tried to help Mr. Chen, the authorities at the 610 Office and the Domestic Security Division of the Hantai District ignored them. No attorney would take the case because of pressure from the authorities.
Mr. Chen was secretly transferred to the Guozhen Forced Labor Camp and taken to Ward No. 3 that specifically persecutes Falun Gong practitioners in October 2012. Captain Li Zhansheng and deputy captain Zheng Haipeng incited prisoners to torture Mr. Chen by frequently hitting and kicking him. He was covered with injuries. Within two months, he became extremely thin because of the torture.
This is the third time that Mr. Chen was sent to forced labor. Long term persecution has led to the death of his father and his wife divorcing him.
