Communist Authorities Prioritize Brainwashing Over Medical Care

(Minghui.org) Ms. Liu Meizhang is a Falun Gong practitioner from Mishan City, Heilongjiang Province. She was arrested for her spiritual belief in June 2013 by personnel from the 610 Office.

Ms. Liu was sent to a brainwashing center, where she was illegally detained for over a month. After her release, she was ordered to report to the brainwashing center every Sunday.

During her detention at the brainwashing center, Ms. Liu fell down and ruptured her spleen. Authorities refused to release her for medical treatment.

Once she finally returned home, Ms. Liu underwent surgery. While in the hospital, she received a phone call from the brainwashing center, demanding that she check out of the hospital to attend a brainwashing session.

Arrested 3 Times in 3 Years for Practicing Falun Gong

Ms. Liu has been arrested three times in the past three years for practicing Falun Gong. Following arrest on July 31, 2011, she was detained in the Mishan Brainwashing Center for 19 days. She was arrested again on August 8, 2012, while distributing informational materials about Falun Gong to people outside the Mishan Long-Distance Bus Station. At that time, she was detained for 5 days and fined 500 yuan.

On the afternoon of June 25, 2013, Mishan City 610 Office head Yu Xiaofeng and several others arrested Ms. Liu again and took her to the Mishan Brainwashing Center, in an attempt to force her to abandon Falun Gong.

During her detention, Ms. Liu fell down and experienced sharp pain in her left shoulder and lower back. However, the brainwashing center refused to release her for medical treatment. She was only allowed to apply rheumatism plasters for the pain.

Ms. Liu was released after 36 days in detention. Brainwashing center head Wang Xiaoping ordered her to return to the center every Sunday. She was also closely monitored at home: Fu Xiuli, brainwashing center agent, visited her every evening to ensure that Ms. Liu had no contact with other Falun Gong practitioners.

As Ms. Liu’s pain continued to get worse, she went to the Mishan Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital on August 7, 2013. There, she was referred to a bigger hospital. In the Mishan Hospital, which she visited next, doctors found that her spleen was ruptured. They immediately performed an operation, during which they also discovered that Ms. Liu had pancreatic cancer.

On Sunday, four days after the operation, Ms. Liu received a phone call from Fu Xiuli, demanding to know why she had not reported to the brainwashing center. After hearing of Ms. Liu’s situation, Fu Xiuli exclaimed, “I don't care! You must come to the brainwashing center now!”

Later, head of the brainwashing center Wang Xiaoping also called Ms. Liu, stating that she would visit Ms. Liu in the hospital. Perhaps for fear of taking responsibility for the injury that had occurred during Ms. Liu's detention, she never showed up.
