Additional Persecution News from China – May 24, 2013 (18 Reports)

(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 18 cities or counties in 8 provinces. In this report, 12 Falun Gong practitioners were subjected to mistreatment during their detention, and at least 14 practitioners were illegally arrested.

1. [Shenyang City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Niu Guifang Facing Trial

Authorities are planning to put Ms. Niu Guifang on trial on May 27, 2013.

2. [Hengyang City, Hunan Province] Ms. Dai Maixiang Detained

Ms. Dai Maixiang from Nanyue, Hengyang City, was arrested for posting information about Falun Gong on the morning of May 13, 2013 . She was taken to the Nanyue Detention Center for a term of 15 days.

3. [Hui County, Henan Province] Mr. Hou Yuan Sentenced to Eight Years in Prison

Mr. Hou Yuan was sentenced to eight years in prison by the Hui County Court. He appealed to the No.1 Criminal Courthouse of the Intermediate People's Court. However, this court sustained the original sentence after trying Mr. Hou again.

Mr. Hou is being held in the Zhengzhou Prison. He has developed a liver disease and his face has turned yellowish.

4. [Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province] Ms. Kang Shuqin's Pension Withheld

Ms. Kang Shuqin, 66, is a retired teacher from the Taiyuan City No.45 Middle School. She was sentenced to 11 years in prison in 2002. She was held in the Shanxi Women’s Prison, where she was tortured by various means, including being beaten and cursed at, forced to stand for extended periods, shocked with electrical batons, imprisoned in solitary confinement, deprived of sleep, fed with poison, and more.

Authorities from the Taiyuan City No.45 Middle School were holding Ms. Kang's pension for 11 years while she was in prison, and would not return it to her. She found the school principal Sun Chunyan after her release and requested Sun to return her pension. However, Sun refused, coming up with all sorts of excuses.

5. [Tumen City, Jilin Province] Ms. Chi Suling Taken to Brainwashing Center

Agents from the Tumen City 610 Office, as well as Li Yanjun and other officers from the Shixian Town Police Station (six or seven people in total), arrested Ms. Chi Suling at her workplace, the Shixian Paper Mill, on the afternoon of May 20, 2013. They took her to the Songlin Brainwashing Center in Tumen City. Ms. Chi was subsequently released.

6. [Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province] Five Practitioners Facing Trial

The Tianhe District Court plans to hold a court session on the morning of June 8, 2013, for Ms. Chen Mei, Ms. Li Hua, Ms. Afeng, Ms. Azhen and Mr. Zhao, who regularly read Falun Gong books together in Tianheyuan Village.

7. [Linshui County, Sichuan Province] Mr. Wang Xianhui Arrested

Mr. Wang Xianhui was recently arrested. His home was ransacked by police.

8. [Liaoyang City, Liaoning Province] Mr. Su Dexing Arrested

Mr. Su Dexing was arrested by officers from the Hongwei District Domestic Security Division in Liaoyang City for explaining the facts about Falun Gong.

9. [Dalian City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Han Guie Arrested

Ms. Han Guie, about 66 years old, was reported to police for talking to people about Falun Gong on the morning of May 23, 2013. She was arrested by three or four officers, including Pu Jingxue, from the Fangjiacun Police Station. Police also ransacked her home and confiscated her Falun Gong books and 1,800 yuan in cash.

10. [Hongdu, Jiangxi Province] Ms. Shu Juan and Ms. Xiong Youlan Arrested

Ms. Shu Juan and Ms. Xiong Youlan were arrested by officers from the Tachengxiang Police Station on the morning of May 23, 2013, for posting up information about Falun Gong in Tachengxiang, Nanchang County.

11. [Ling County, Shandong Province] Ms. Liu Huilan and Ms. Wu Xiuzhi Arrested

Ms. Liu Huilan and Ms. Wu Xiuzhi from Ling County were arrested by officers from the 610 Office of the local police department on May 23, 2013. Ms. Liu was beaten and handcuffed for not following orders; she was released that afternoon. Ms. Wu was taken to the Ling County Detention Center.

12. [Tangshan City, Hebei Province] Mr. Meng Fanquan Arrested

Mr. Meng Fanquan from Tangshan City was arrested at home by officers from the Tangshan City Police Department, Lubei District Branch, on the morning of May 23, 2013. His home was ransacked.

13. [Wuhan City, Hubei Province] Ms. Liu Lingli Missing

Ms. Liu Lingli from Wuhan City went out on the morning of May 22, 2013, and has been missing ever since. It is suspected that she has been arrested.

14. [Anhua County, Hunan Province] Mr. Fang Xiaodong and Other Practitioners Arrested

Mr. Fang Xiaodong, Ms. Tian Fumei and other practitioners from Meicheng Town, Anhua County, were arrested by officers from the Meicheng Town Police Station early in the morning on May 16, 2013.

15. [Guangzong County, Hebei Province] Ms. Wang Lina Taken to Brainwashing Center

Ms. Wang Lina, about 30 years old, was reported to police on May 14, 2013, for posting information about Falun Gong. Zhang Mengkan, chief of the Guangzong County Domestic Security Division, subsequently took her to the Xingtai City Brainwashing Center.

16. [Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province] Mr. Li Weiping Mistreated in Police Custody

Officers in Nanjing City took Mr. Li Weiping to the Xuanwu Police Station on the morning of May 15, 2013. They deprived him of food, water and sleep and tried to force him to frame other practitioners. He has become very weak as a result of the mistreatment in police custody.

17. [Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province] Mr. Kong Xianlan Mistreated in Police Custody

Mr. Kong Xianlan, in his 60s, was arrested by officers from the Shishan Police Station on the morning of April 25, 2013. He was sent to the Suzhou City Detention Center. Guards took turns to interrogate Mr. Kong, depriving him of food and sleep as they tried to force him to write the three statements to renounce his belief.

18. [Yingkou City, Liaoning Province] Mr. Li Guang Sentenced to Four Years in Prison

After being held in Bayuquan for over seven months, Mr. Li Guang was sentenced to four years in prison on May 17, 2013 by the Bayuquan Court. Mr. Li and his family have appealed against the unlawful verdict to the Yingkou City Intermediate Court.
