(Minghui.org) Ms. Song Fengrong, a farmer from Tangshan, Hebei Province, was recently sentenced to three years in prison for telling people the facts of Falun Gong. Throughout her arrest, detention, trial and sentencing, there have been no lawyers, no observers, nor any appeal.
Ms. Song lives in Sanyizhuang Village, Zhengzhuangzi Township, Tangshan, Hebei Province. On the morning of July 9, 2012, she was arrested for speaking out about the facts of Falun Gong in the Majiatun Market area by officers from the Domestic Security Division of the Tangshan Development Zone Police Department.
The police notified her family two weeks later and told her husband to go to the Domestic Security Division. He did so. Officers told him that they would send Ms. Song to the Tangshan No. 1 Detention Center and asked him to sign a document. He did not understand and refused.
Ms. Song's family has been forbidden by the police from visiting her. Her husband received an evasive phone call on October 25, 2012. The person on the phone said that there would be a trial the next day, but did not clearly say who was calling and where the trial would be held. The caller then hung up. After they got a letter from Ms. Song, the family learned that she had been illegally tried and sentenced to three years in prison. During the whole process, her family was prohibited from sitting in the court, hiring a lawyer for her, or appealing for her.
Ms. Song was taken from the Tangshan No. 1 Detention Center to the Shijiazhuang Women's Prison on February 17, 2013. Soon after that, a guard called her family and said that Ms. Song had no more money and asked the family to send money. Her husband replied that it was impossible because they had sent 2,000 yuan at the beginning of the year. The guard said that they would check and never called back.
Ms. Song called home in mid-March. Her son answered. Her son and daughter-in-law are currently unwilling to talk about her due to pressure from the persecution. Her family hasn't seen her for the last nine months.
