(Minghui.org) The police arrested a practitioner from Chengdu, Mr. Liu Yongsheng, in July 2012 and has detained him for nearly a year at the Xinjin Detention Center. Xinjin County Court recently sentenced him. When his family planned to appeal, court officials interfered by refusing to provide a verdict.

Mr. Liu, 46, was formerly an engineer working at the Chengdu Aircraft Design Institute, a division of China Aviation Industry Group Corporation. After the persecution of Falun Gong started in July 1999, he was arrested and sent to a forced labor camp. He was handcuffed to a pole, deprived of sleep, tied up with a rope, shocked with electric batons, and exposed to extremely high temperatures.

Because of the persecution, Mr. Liu lost his job and was forced to stay away from home for a long time. Terrified by the communist regime, his wife divorced him.

When Mr. Liu put up Falun Gong materials near the gate of Xinjin Brainwashing Center on the evening of July 12, 2012, someone reported him. Huaqiao Police Station officers arrested him and then detained him at the Xinjin Detention Center for nearly a year. Family visits were prohibited.

Mr. Liu's family went to the police department on May 13, 2013, asking why they had not received the arrest warrant. The police claimed that it was sent to the community.

His family hired an attorney on May 13. One court staff person said, “Mr. Liu is sentenced to three years. The verdict will be delivered to the detention center on May 14. The appeal period is 10 days.” When his family went to the detention center to visit him, the guards would not let them in and said, “You are only allowed to visit him if you do not appeal.”

Although Mr. Liu's family planned to appeal, officials refused to provide his family with the arrest warrant and verdict.

His family heard that Mr. Liu had problems with his cornea and he had once been sent to the hospital for that reason. They are worried that he may become blind.
