(Minghui.org) Ms. Miao Shuqing and Ms. Zhang Jie from Fushun City, Liaoning Province, were illegally arrested in 2012. Both Falun Dafa practitioners have been detained and are currently facing trial.

Ms. Miao Shuqing

Ms. Miao, 64, is from Yongantai in the Xinfu District. She was arrested around 9 p.m. on November 5, 2012, while putting up sticky notes that said "Falun Dafa is wonderful" in the Hongsheng residential area in Hedong, Shuncheng District. Chen Lianjie, who was doing cleaning, reported her to the police. Officers from the Hedong Police Station made the arrest. The police officer responsible for Ms. Miao's case is Tong Yonghua.

Ms. Miao was taken into Nangou Detention Center in Fushun. Shuncheng District Procuratorate then issued an arrest warrant to confirm her arrest.

Ms. Zhang Jie

Ms. Zhang from the Wanghua District was arrested at home at about 10 a.m. on October 11, 2012. Zhang Zhongsheng, deputy head of the Heping Police Station, and two plainclothes officers made the arrest. Ms. Zhang was also taken to the Nangou Detention Center for detention.

After Ms. Zhang's arrest, her family members spoke to the head of Heping Police Station and demanded her release. The police chief informed them that the arrest was related to the authorities' preparation for the impending 18th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party, so she could not be released.

Earlier in the year, on May 12, 2012, Ms. Zhang had been arrested while she spoke to people about Falun Dafa near where Heping Police Station. She was released only after her family handed in 5,000 yuan as a “deposit.” However, the police did not issue any paperwork for this “deposit” and it was never returned. Later, the police claimed that they had confiscated this money as a “fine.”

It is stipulated in article No. 91 of the Public Security Administration Penalty Law that "public security administration penalties are determined by the police under the state's government. Among those, any fine of up to 500 yuan can be subjected to by police stations." Yet, Heping Police Station took 5,000 yuan from the family with no explanation.
