Four Practitioners in Xi'an City Illegally Detained for Over a Year

(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Zhang Ling, her brother Mr. Zhang Yunshen, Ms. He Changhua, and Ms. Tao Meiyi have been illegally detained for nearly a year. Yanta District Court in Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province, attempted to unlawfully try these practitioners on November 28, 2012. Their family members have hired attorneys to defend them.

Ms. Zhang from Xi'an went to a residential area at No. 70 Xiying Road in Yanta District in late 2011 to clarify the facts about Falun Gong to people. She was stopped by a person from the residential security office and detained. Her older brother, Mr. Zhang, then went there to ask for her release. However, he was also detained. After hearing about this, Ms. Tao went there in order to explain the facts and ask for her fellow practitioners' release. She was also detained.

Police officer Yan Meiming from the Domestic Security Division of theYanta District Police Department broke into the practitioners' residences and ransacked their homes. The officers confiscated three printers, two laptop computers, multiple cell phones, Falun Gong materials, and a bank book for an account with over 20,000 yuan. They also arrested Ms. He, who was staying at one of the residences.

Mr. Zhang, Ms. Zhang, and Ms. He were then transferred to the Yanta District Detention Center. Ms. Tao was incarcerated at the Changlepo Detention Center in Xincheng District. The practitioners have been detained for nearly a year.

In January 2012, Yan Meiming led a group of police officers to Chongqing, where they colluded with the local Domestic Security Division in Yuzhong District to harass Ms. Tao's mother and elder sister. Their intimidation was so severe that Ms. Tao's mother subsequently had to be hospitalized in a psychiatric hospital for more than four months to recover from the trauma.
