Ms. Deng Shaoying Detained in Xinjin Brainwashing Center; Family Visits Not Allowed

(Minghui.org) When Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Deng Shaoying went to visit fellow practitioner Ms. Li Zhongfang on the evening of September 3, 2013, she found officers from the Fuqinlu Police Station ransacking Ms. Li's home. Practitioners Ms. Yang Yafei and Ms. Hong Yizhao were also there. All four practitioners were arrested and taken to Jinniu Brainwashing Center in Chengdu City.

Since the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started its persecution of Falun Gong in 1999, Ms. Deng has been harassed and arrested many times. She was sentenced to 3 years in prison in 2003 because of her belief in Falun Gong.

Life and hope renewed

Ms. Deng Shaoying, 61, is a retired employee from the Wenchuan County Paper Factory. She had suffered from rheumatism, arthritis and had a slipped disc for a long time. She is divorced, and has to take care of her paralyzed parents and raise her young kids on a small income. When she was close to losing her job, she was in great despair.

After Ms. Deng started practicing Falun Gong, she benefited both physically and mentally. She returned to good health, no longer had a bad temper and became considerate of others, following the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. Her friends and family all witnessed these changes.

Arrested while visiting a fellow practitioner

When Ms. Deng visited Ms. Li on the evening of September 3, 2013, she saw that officers from the Fuqinlu Police Station were ransacking Ms. Li's home. Ms. Deng was searched and the Falun Gong materials she had in her bag were confiscated. She was taken to Fuqin Police Station and was detained there for 48 hours.

Officers took Ms. Deng to Chengdu Detention Center on September 6, and then transferred her to Jinniu District Brainwashing Center on October 12. She was later taken to the Xinjin Brainwashing Center.

Ms. Li, Ms. Yang and Ms. Deng's lawyers' faxed legal documents to Zhang Yu, the director of the Section for Issuing Arrest Orders, demanding that their clients be released immediately.

Ms. Deng's family members were not informed of her arrest, and didn't know where she was being held. But after making persistent inquiries, the police eventually told them that she was being held in the Xinjin Brainwashing Center. When Ms. Deng's family demanded her release, officer Xing Fei from Fuqinlu Police Station said that they were not in charge of this case, and that they should contact the Domestic Security Division and the city police department. Officer Xing also said that he didn't know the address of the Xinjin Brainwashing Center and told Ms. Deng's family that visits may not be allowed.

Officials at Xinjin Brainwashing Center forbid family visit

When Ms. Deng's family went to visit her in the Xinjin Brainwashing Center, they were told that they needed permission from the local police department, and were refused entry. They then started to argue with guard Xu Dan at the entrance, who tried to call for help. A black sedan honked at the gate wanting to gain entry, but was refused because the guard at the gate was afraid that the family would get in once the gate was opened.

Xu Dan only opened the gate when a police car arrived with two officers inside. One of Ms. Deng's family members questioned them, “Is this a place for serving sentences or a state law enforcement agency?” Xu Dan told them that this was the Chengdu Law Education Center. This confused Ms. Deng's family members, so one of them asked, “Why don't you wear a uniform if you are a legal agency?” When Xu Dan was asked the name of his employer, Xu told them that it was none of their business.

Ms. Deng's family told the men that Ms. Deng must be released unconditionally. But Xu Dan said that he was not in charge and that they had to talk to the officials at the Jinniu Police Department. After some discussion, one of Ms. Deng's family members warned the police, “If anything happens to Ms. Deng Shaoying, we will come back.”
