(Minghui.org) Mr. Hou Shengjiang, a Falun Dafa practitioner from the Dongfeng District, Jiamusi City, went to his daughter's school for a meeting on October 12, 2013. As he had some time before the meeting, he put up some Falun Dafa truth-clarification fliers to let more people understand the facts about this cultivation practice. He was spotted and arrested by police from the Jianguo Road Police Station, and taken to the Jiamusi Detention Center. His extended family depends on Mr. Hou as their sole provider and his detention has endangered their wellbeing.
Mr. Hou Shengjiang, born in November 1974, graduated from the Computer Science College of Jiamusi University in 1997 and is known to be an outstanding professional. In college, he experienced health problems, but after becoming a Falun Dafa practitioner, he returned to good health and became optimistic and hardworking. He is highly regarded by his colleagues, family and friends.
Mr. Hou was arrested by four police officers, including Gao Mingze and Wang Hao, from the Dongfeng Road Substation on October 12, 2013, while posting Falun Dafa truth-clarification flyers. They forced him to take them to his home, which they ransacked. They confiscated two laptop computers, one desktop computer, one printer, and other personal items. When Mr. Hou's over 70-year-old mother-in-law asked the police which station they came from, they verbally abused her and refused to answer her question. They took Mr. Hou to the Jianguo Road Police Station.
When Mr. Hou's family arrived at the station, he was just being interrogated. He clarified the truth about Falun Dafa. Officer Gao Mingze pointed his finger at him and said, “You're still lecturing me here! You think you're in the USA, and can do whatever you want?” Upon hearing this, a member of Mr. Hou's family said, “We're all good citizens, please don't get angry and don't abuse him.”
At 9:15 the same night, the police ordered Mr. Hou's family to sign a notice acknowledging an “administrative 15-day detention” and pay the equivalent of a $500 fine. Then, they took him to the Jiamushi Detention Center.
Mr. Hou's wife went back to the police station to ask for the confiscated property, including a computer that was used by the entire family. The computer contained valuable personal data. Officer Wang Hao said, “Your computer was turned over to the city's Public Security Bureau for investigation. You go ask the police chief or secretary there. This case has been turned over to the city. We're not in charge of it any more.”
Wang Hao also threatened Mr. Hou's family, “Don't think that he can go home after 15 days. This case is very serious. We haven't had this kind for almost a year. Why doesn't he do something else at his young age?” Another policeman said, “He'll go home if you pay some money.”
Family Devastated
Mr. Hou's family relies on him for taking care of them. His 76-year-old father-in-law suffered a stroke and is bedridden and Mr. Hou has to take him back and forth to the hospital. His mother has heart problems.
His brother-in-law died young, and his wife remarried, leaving their child with Mr. Hou. His wife's second older brother divorced and left his high-school aged son with them as well. After Mr. Hou was arrested, the two boys approached their schoolmates' families for help; however they were unsuccessful. Mr. Hou also has a daughter in junior high school.
