Ms. Li Qiyu, a Falun Gong practitioner of Korean ethnicity from Yanbian Prefecture in Jilin Province, is physically disabled. As a practitioner, she never took any medication and was very healthy and full of energy. However, because she continued to practice and clarify the facts about Falun Gong, she was tortured by Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials. She has had nine operations and two lumbar vertebrae removed. According to doctors, she could have been bedridden for life as a result of how she was mistreated.
Brutally Tortured at Longmen Police Station in Longjing City
On January 11, 2007, Mr. Piao Guangxun, Mr. Li Hongyuan, and Mr. Shen Xueshan from the Yanbian District were arrested while they were clarifying the facts to people in the countryside. They were taken to the Longmen Police Station in Longjing City, Yanbian Prefecture, where they were tortured to force them to "confess." Mr. Piao was beaten until he couldn't move.
On the morning of the January 12, 2007, Ms. Li Qiyu was arrested at Mr. Shen Xueshan's home. She was badly beaten.
Torture re-enactment: Hitting while against a wall
Ms. Li was kicked so hard that she lost consciousness. One of her ribs and a toe were fractured and she began to cramp up. But the guards didn't stop. They pulled her hair and repeatedly slammed her head against a wall. The guards also stepped on her ribs, face, and feet. When she asked to go to the bathroom, the guards told her that if she had to urinate, she would have to drink her own urine. This went on and on.
The guards were shouting: "If you don't listen to us, your organs will be taken out." "You should just die." "I don't care if you die. And if you die, I'll say you fell down the stairs!" One of the guards was wearing glasses, had a long slim face, was in his 30s, and of average height. The other guard was short with dark skin. The two guards were very violent and beat people brutally.
Ms. Li endured life threatening torture. She was handcuffed to a metal heater in the duty room. Before sunrise, the three guards who were watching her fell asleep. Because she was not allowed to use the bathroom, she wet her pants. During the long hours of being tortured, she struggled so violently that she was soaked.
Suddenly she found herself being electrocuted. The electric shock was so strong that it left 39 bruises all over her. She was in so much pain that she shouted, "Where is this coming from?" She was saved only when the guards on duty were awakened by her cries and ran over to turn off the electricity. The guard who turned on the electricity was in a different room. The power went under the floor of the duty room and the electric current was transmitted through the heater. Because Ms. Li was handcuffed to the heater she could not get away and was shocked. The consequences could have been deadly.
Ms. Li was tortured until she could not walk and became incontinent. She was near death. The guards said they would let her go home or they would take her to her a relative's home. Instead, they took her to the hospital. They put her on a stretcher and took her into a room. Ms. Li fell off the stretcher and began to shout, "I practice Falun Gong! The police broke my ribs!" Later, four guards carried her outside to a place near the hospital where there wasn't anyone around. They put her on the ground between the two police vans and one police officer began to shout, "Quick, keep her down!"
When Ms. Li opened her eyes, she saw a police officer holding a large syringe. She knew they were up to no good and began to shout, "I know what happens to practitioners you inject; they turn into vegetables or they die and then you harvest their organs. I will not let you do that. If you do, I will not let you take me to my relative's home. If you don't hand over the syringe, I will not get in the van." In the end, Ms. Li managed to break away from them because of her righteous actions and left.
Underground Torture Chamber at Yanji City Police Bureau
On April 17, 2012, four Falun Gong practitioners of Korean descent--Mr. Taihao, his mother Ms. Jin Shunshan, Ms. Li Qiyu, and Mr. Xu Yuanzhong--were helping some farmers install satellite dishes so that they could receive NTDTV programs. On their way home, they were sitting in a cab after paying the fare, but the van turned out to be a police vehicle.
Another van drove up, stopped, and the occupants got out. Some taped what they said, and some were taking pictures. One said to Mr. Xu, “We are from the National Security Department.” All four practitioners were arrested. Ms. Li and Ms. Jin were put in the first van and taken to an underground room at the Yanji City Police Bureau, where they were cruelly tortured. Mr. Xu was put in the second van. It was said that he was hung up for three days.

While in detention, Ms. Li was pinched in the neck, kicked, and had cold water poured on her. Ms. Li and Ms. Jin passed out several times from the mistreatment. Because she had trouble breathing and her blood pressure escalated, Ms. Li was taken to the hospital three times. One time she was taken to a mental hospital. In the end, she was diagnosed with liver cancer. Before being arrested, she was in good health. After being arrested, her life was in constant danger.
She was released for medical reasons, but two months later, before she had fully recovered, she was arrested and taken to a brainwashing center. Even though she was in a life threatening condition, she was arrested again. Zheng Zhezhu and Jin Chengzhe from the Domestic Security Department in Yanji City arrested her at home.
Tied up in Longjing Brainwashing Center
Employees of the city 610 Office gave orders to the collaborators at the Longjing Brainwashing Center. Shao Ling, and Liu from Jilin Province and guard Wang from the Special Police Division brutally tortured and tried to brainwash Ms. Li. She was tied up with strips of cloth by police officer Wang. Her hands were pulled behind her back and then she was tied up. Her legs were bound in the lotus position and her head was tied down to her legs. There was very little space between her head and her legs.
After that, they bound her arms, legs and head tightly. They also had her sit on the photograph of the founder of Falun Gong. When Ms. Li asked them to take the picture away, officer Wang said, "What? It's only one picture. We put 60 pictures under another practitioner.” When she asked them to let her go to the bathroom, Liu shouted: "If you want to pee, we'll collect the urine and pour it in your mouth."
She was kept bound for 36 hours and wasn't allowed to use the bathroom. As a result, blood vessels began to break all over her body. Her anus prolapsed and she had anal bleeding which festered. Her entire body became swollen. When she was later taken to the bathroom, she lost consciousness.
She was also subjected to brainwashing. Although she was in poor physical condition, she was still taken to Helong Brainwashing Center. Because her anus had prolapsed she could only lie down.
Another incident at the Helong Brainwashing Center involved Ms. Peng, in her 50s, jumping out of a window. Ms. Peng had suffered tremendously after only a few days of brainwashing. Ms. Ping was taken from a ground room to the second floor. Shao Ling and another collaborator tied Ms. Peng up with strips of cloth. Around noon, Ms. Peng jumped out of a window to escape. She ended up being injured and had to be taken to the hospital. She fractured a lumbar vertebra that pushed into other lumbar vertebrae, causing permanent paralysis.
This petrified collaborators Shao Ling, Wu Meihua, Pu Yingzi, and Song Xiuqin. They paid Ms. Peng 500 yuan. After the person in charge of the Helong 610 Office heard about what happened, he gathered them together and told them not to talk about it. They bought medical insurance for Ms. Li after the fact. In addition, Wu Meihua helped Ms. Peng's family to sell fruit worth 30,000 yuan.
