In the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) forced labor camps and prisons Falun Gong practitioners are tortured in attempts to force them into renouncing their beliefs. The persecutors use the so-called “transformation” method, and humiliate the female Falun Gong practitioners.
Ms. Zhang Zhifen from Hechuan, Chongqing City was arrested at home on May 9, 2012. She held a hunger strike while imprisoned to protest her detention. She was force-fed three times and then transferred to the Women's Forced Labor Camp in Chongqing City nine days later.
While in the forced labor camp, Zhang Zhifen resisted the maltreatment. Attempting to transform her, police officers tried various tactics, including brainwashing her by filling her mind with propaganda and telling her lies about Falun Gong and Master. She was restricted from using the toilet and bathroom on a hot day, and forced to stand and squat for long periods of time. Since she refused to be "transformed" after two months of detention, she was locked in a small cell and monitored by the most vicious people in the facility. They claimed they would "transform" her within three days.

When she stood up in the small cell, the five most vicious people who were monitoring her brutally kicked and beat her, to the point that her body was covered with bruises. They later stripped her clothes off and taped her hands, feet, and body together. When Zhang Zhifen went on a hungry strike, they force-fed her water and food through her nose. They also threatened that they would brush her private parts with a tooth brush and not allow her to use the toilet if she refused to write the three statements renouncing Falun Gong. Under high pressure, Zhang Zhifen copied other people’s three statements against her will.
Police officers forced her to answer questions concerning defamation of Master and Falun Dafa. Zhang Zhifen felt terrible and refused to answer the questions after she carefully thought about it.
She was then detained in a small cell again, where she was kicked and repeatedly beat about the head. Her head was even put under a water bucket, and she was not allowed to clean or bath for over 80 days. She was starved and exposed to extremely cold weather. During the coldest time, she was stripped of her clothes and cold water was poured over her. She was inhumanly tortured and police officers even threatened to brush her private parts with a toilet brush.
Zhang Zhifen was emaciated when she was released in August 2013.
