Persecution News from China – January 18, 2013 (11 Reports)

(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in ten cities or counties in seven provinces. According to this report, nine Falun Gong practitioners were subjected to mistreatment during their detention, and at least eight practitioners were illegally arrested.

1. [Aohan Banner, Inner Mongolia] Mr. Lan Guangfei Detained

Chief Gong Chuanxing, along with Zheng Xiaodong, Zhao Xiuxian, and other officers from the Domestic Security Division of Aohan Banner Police Department, barged into Mr. Lan Guangfei's home in Huanghuadian Village, Saliba Township, Aohan Banner, on the evening of January 9, 2013. They arrested Mr. Lan and confiscated his computer and other items. Mr. Lan is being held in the Aohan Banner Detention Center in Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia.

2. [Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Xia Dongmei and Mr. Xia Yan Held in Jinzhou City Detention Center

Four practitioners from Shenbei New District, Shenyang City, were tried on January 17, 2013. They were Ms. Niu Guifang and Ms. Qu Lihong from Hushitai Town, Ms. Zhou Fenglan from Huishan, and a male practitioner in his 40s. They were taken to the courthouse around 9:30 a.m. in handcuffs and shackles.

4. [Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Xu Huiping Arrested Again by 610 Office

Ms. Xu Huiping from Jinzhou City was arrested in Jinzhou City on January 16, 2013, again by the Jinzhou City 610 Office.

Agents from the Jinzhou City 610 Office arrested Ms. Xu before, on July 19, 2012, then released her after extorting a huge amount of money from her.

5. [Ling County, Shandong Province] Ms. Gu Wenhua Detained

Ms. Gu Wenhua, 53, is from Ling County. She was arrested on the afternoon of January 15, 2013, for handing out calendars that have facts about Falun Gong written on them. She was taken to the Ling County Detention Center. Five officers including Wu Guiguo from the 610 Office harassed her brother in his home that afternoon.

Ms. Guo is still being held. She was ordered to hand over 750 yuan to pay for her living costs for 15 days in the center.

6. [Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province] Ms. Gao Guifeng and Ms. Wei Hongya Persecuted

Elderly Ms. Gao Guifeng from Yancheng City was detained in November 2012 and formally arrested at the beginning of January 2013.

Ms. Wei Hongya was sentenced to five years in prison. She is being held in Nantong Women's Prison.

7. [Yichun City, Jiangxi Province] Mr. Yu Wuping Detained

Mr. Yu Wuping, who works at the Yichun City Tantalum and Niobium Mine, was taken to the Yuanzhou Detention Center when the 2013 National People's Congress and Chinese People's Political Consultative Conferences were being held. His belongings, including a laptop and a printer, were taken. Mr. Yu was held in the center for a month, then was released after his family handed over 20,000 yuan for his “bail.”

8. [Xuchang City, Henan Province] Ms. Li Fue, Ms. Li Chunhua, and Ms. Zhang Jinping Arrested

Ms. Li Fue, Ms. Li Chunhua, and Ms. Zhang Jinping, all around 50 years old, are from Guolian Township. They were arrested by officers from the Guolian Township Police Station on the afternoon of January 15, 2013. Around midnight, officers from the Guolian Township Police Station ransacked their homes and confiscated Falun Gong books, informational materials about Falun Gong, and other items.

Ms. Li Chuhua was previously sentenced to two years in prison and Ms. Zhang Jinhua was previously detained.

9. [Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province] Ms. Li Guihua Detained

Ms. Li Guihua from Jiujiang City is in her 60s. She was arrested at the Jiujiang City Train Station on January 12, 2013, for explaining facts about Falun Gong to the public. She is being held in the Yujiahe Detention Center in Jiujiang City.

10. [Wuhan City, Hubei Province] Mr. Shen Xuewu Sent to Detention Center on December 31, 2012

11. [Tongcheng Couty, Hubei Province] Mr. Lei Shengli Sentenced to Three Years in Prison

Li Chenggang, chief of the Tongcheng County Domestic Security Division; Ge Wanglong; and others searched Mr. Li Shengli's home on April 16, 2012, and confiscated informational materials about Falun Gong, Falun Gong books, DVDs, a laptop computer, a DVD burner, a printer, and other items.

Tongcheng County authorities tried Mr. Lei in Wuli Town on September 7, 2012, and issued the verdict on January 10, 2013. Mr. Lei was sentenced to three years in prison. He is still being held in a detention center.
