(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Lin Weizhu from Dalian City is close to 60. He has been practicing Falun Gong for over 12 years and has benefited from it both physically and mentally. Since the persecution of Falun Gong began in 1999, he has been severely persecuted for not giving up his faith. His family was torn apart as a result of his often being arrested and his home ransacked. He was put into forced labor camps three times. In the Dalian Forced Labor Camp, he was subjected to long-term hanging, the death bed, being burned, and other forms of torture. His wife could not bear the home-ransacking and harassment by police and divorced him.
On June 6, 2012, Mr. Lin was again arrested by officers from the Zhonghua Road Police Station in Dalian, and his home was again ransacked. He is currently in the Yaojia Detention Center.
Inhumanly Tortured in Dalian Forced Labor Camp
Mr. Lin was forced to do hard labor from early 2003 to the beginning of 2005. The Dalian Forced Labor Camp attempts to force each practitioner to give up his or her beliefs. Their primary tactics include: 1. long-time hanging and putting practitioners on a “death bed;” 2. sleep deprivation—practitioners were beaten if they closed their eyes; 3. collaborators using a variety of ways to "transform" practitioners; 4. shocking with electric batons; 5. threats of extended terms; 6. forcing practitioners who are on hunger strikes to drink alcohol; 7. long-term hard labor; 8. sexual abuse.
Beginning in March 2003, police instigated collaborator Zhou Fengwu, and prisoners Liu Fengliang and Liang Changsheng to persecute Falun Gong practitioners who had just arrived at the camp, including Mr. Qu Fei, Mr. Lin, and Mr. Zhang Yong. Mr. Zhang was hung in the air, Mr. Qu's face was beaten so severely that he had difficulty eating or speaking.
Torture re-enactment: Hanging in the air
On October 27, 2003, Mr. Lin, Mr. Zhao Chuanhai, and Mr. Qu Fei wrote a letter to the management of the labor camp explaining that Falun Gong was a good practice and that it was illegal to arrest its practitioners, that Falun Gong's good reputation should be restored and that all the Falun Gong practitioners should be released and allowed to to the exercises unmolested. The police, seeking revenge, put them in small cells. Their beds consisted of several iron bars with no flat surface or bedding. They were handcuffed to the sides of the bed and their feet were attached to the end of the bed. This is the so called “death bed.” Of the three practitioners, the one who endured this for the shortest time was tortured continuously for about two weeks. They were later hung in the air while sitting on small stools during the daytime, and at night they were only allowed to sleep for four hours.
Torture re-enactment: Death bed
Mr. Lin said that he was left on the “death bed” for one solid month and not released to eat or use the restroom. The metal restraints cut into his wrists and ankles, and his body was supported only by a few metal bars. In addition, he was brutally beaten every day for the entire month. He was hit with the edges of wooden blocks and stools day or night, again and again, as if they didn't care if he lived or died. His entire body was injured and the pain was indescribable.
The guards at Dalian Forced Labor Camp abuse Falun Gong practitioners without restraint in order to get bonuses, get promoted, and obtain a falsified 100% "transformation" rate. The other prisoners mistreat practitioners to get their own jail terms reduced, avoid doing slave labor, and impress the guards. During the time practitioners were undergoing forced "transformation," they were not allowed to wash their faces, brush their teeth, change clothes, shave, or get a haircut. Their faces were often covered with dust, and they all smelled bad from not being allowed to bathe. Mr. Lin's beard was as long as his hair.
On April 20, 2004, a third set of practitioners was transferred into the labor camp to be forcibly "transformed." The guards were afraid that Mr. Lin's “savage” appearance would get get out, so they gave him a haircut and let him shower several days before they arrived. They then began the 15 days of forced "transformation," using sleep deprivation, long-term hanging, brutal beatings, etc. They subsequently began a second, 15-day cycle for the practitioners who refused to “transform” in the first 15 days.
During that time, the guards used even more despicable means. Guard captain Liu Zhongke said many times, “They must get 'transformed,' whatever it takes.” As a result of such “guidance,” prisoners used lighters to burn Mr. Lin's hands while they were handcuffed. Mr. Lin's hands were completely swollen and dark. Another prisoner, Pan Yunlong, used slippers to slap Mr. Lin's face and left it bleeding badly.
No matter how badly he was tortured, Mr. Lin always remained compassionate and continued to speak about the facts of the persecution to the criminal inmates. Even the prisoners privately agreed that he was forthright and laughed at the officers' evil and treachery. When asked whether he agreed to “transform,” Mr. Lin said, “I'll die no matter what. As long as I'm alive, I'll continue to practice Dafa.”
The police thought that under this kind of torture, there was no way that Mr. Lin could bear it for more than a couple of days. However, with his strong faith in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, Mr. Lin faced everything calmly, and again and again all those evil efforts were in vain.
In April 2004, Mr. Lin and Mr. Li Wei were put in small cells because they would not do the hard labor. Mr. Lin continued to compassionately clarify the facts about the persecution to the guards and prisoners, telling them again and again the principle of “good and bad will reap their own rewards,” trying to appeal to their conscience. One prisoner was the leader of a local gang. At first, he tortured practitioners very brutally. However, he saw that they were protecting Dafa with their lives and trying to save those who brutally beat them. He was very touched. He knew that the more brutal a prisoner tortured practitioners, the more the guards would reduce his term. However, he also understood that the guards were trying to push the prisoners into hell by making them the scapegoats. From then on, he always quietly helped Falun Gong practitioners.
Many prisoners in the labor camp said, “When a good person enters the labor camp, gradually he will become a bad person. When a bad person enters the labor camp, he will become even worse, because the guards encourage him to commit crimes.” Another prisoner said, “The guards in the labor camp all take money from prisoners. If a prisoner turns in 500 yuan, he will get 10 points, meaning his term will be reduced by ten days. All the guards above the mid-level captain have committed enough crimes to go to jail.” Besides paying off the guards, persecuting Falun Gong practitioners can also reduce their terms. One prisoner's term was reduced by a year and a half just because he helped beat Falun Gong practitioners.
Guo Peng and Jiang Chongjiu of the Dalian Forced Labor Camp were promoted for brutally torturing practitioners. Guo Peng was promoted from instruction captain to assistant labor camp director, and Jiang Chongjiu was promoted from instructor to the Eighth Division captain.
Because Mr. Lin refused to be “transformed,” he was frequently put into a small cell.
Abused in Weining Forced Labor Camp in Benxi City
In January 2007, Mr. Lin was sentenced to two years and taken Dalian Forced Labor Camp. He was later transferred to Weining Forced Labor Camp. His sentence was set to end on December 20, 2008.
In late December 2007, guard Zheng Kai demanded that all practitioners recite the labor camp rules. Mr. Lin refused, and Zheng publicly cursed him out by.
Guard Guo Tieying often mocked, humiliated, and cursed at Mr. Lin. One time during a “class,” Guo suddenly walked over to Mr. Lin, hit his head with a chalkboard eraser, and said, “Who do you think you are?” Mr. Lin stood up and said calmly, “I am a Falun Gong practitioner.” After that, Guo always picked on Mr. Lin and frequently put him in a small cell. Sometimes he even extended his jail term. One time when Mr. Lin had just gotten out of a small cell, Guo forced him to clean the restroom every day and said, “You must make it completely clean. If I see anything that's not clean, I'll extend your term and make you stay in a small cell.” When Guo used the toilet, he often purposely defecated outside of the toilet and then walked away.
In the restroom was a water boiler where the hot water that Falun Gong practitioners drank came from. When Guo was on duty at night, he often washed his socks and then dried them by putting them on top of the boiler. Sometimes he even took out his shoes' insoles and dried them on top of it. As a result, the water boiler always smelled bad.
In 2008, guards Liu Shaoshi and Guo threatened to extend the terms of Mr. Lin and another practitioner, Mr. Zhang Zhigang, by one month. On August 1, Mr. Lin was put in a small cell for two weeks because he didn't wear the labor camp badge. On August 18, Mr. Lin was again put in a small cell for two weeks for the same reason. Mr. Lin's term was extended by one month overall and he was not released until January 2009. Mr. Lin was put in a small cell even several days before he was to be released. When the local police took him out of the labor camp to take him home, he was still in a small cell.
On December 9, 2010, Mr. Lin was arrested for clarifying the facts about the persecution near Shandong Road in Dalian. He was sentenced to one year and was taken to the Dalian Forced Labor Camp.
