(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioners Mr. Jia Zhaoqing and his wife Ms. Han Shuzhen from Cangzhou City, Hebei Province, were illegally arrested and sent to Cangzhou Detention Center on February 25, 2012, by agents from the Cangzhou City 610 Office and National Security Division. Within just 15 days, Mr. Jia was persecuted so severely that he had a recurrence of liver ascites. Ms. Han was sent to a forced labor camp.

Mr. Jia Zhaoqing was a lecturer in the Department of Horticulture at Cangzhou Agriculture School. He was diagnosed with severe hepatitis B and early stage cirrhosis in 1996, and as a result he was frequently hospitalized.

Mr. Jia had spent more than 60,000 yuan in medical expenses on protein transfusions, interferon injections, and liver protection drugs, but he was never able to regain his health. Doctors told him to not catch cold, not get tired, not lose his temper, and to avoid greasy food. He also had to have regular checkups. It was a very difficult period for Mr. Jia, and his family experienced a lot of hardship.

In the summer of 1998, Mr. Jia fortunately began practicing Falun Dafa, and he began conducting himself according to the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. He soon recovered from his illness and went back to work full of energy.

His peaceful life only lasted one year however, before the Chinese Communist Party began the brutal persecution of Falun Gong.

Jia Zhaoqing and his wife were subsequently monitored by school leaders, their work colleagues, and even their neighbors. They were tracked and monitored whenever they went out. They were also forced to write the so-called guarantee statements. Finally, under the direction of school principal Chen Zongwei, Mr. Jia was removed from his teaching position and forced to clean the school toilets, collect garbage, sweep the streets, and work in the greenhouse. He was paid only 300 yuan per month, which is not even minimum wage. After unsuccessfully appealing to school leaders several times, Mr. Jia was forced to sell potatoes, peanuts, and flowers to support his family.

Ten years have passed, during which time Mr. Jia has asked the school leadership many times to be allowed to resume his job as a teacher and have his wages reinstated, which have been withheld. But he had no success. The difficulties did not wear him down however. Mr. Jia has become more and more healthy by practicing Falun Gong. During a recent physical examination, a doctor who had treated him when he was ill told him, “All these years you have done pretty well keeping the health of your liver!”

On June 11, 2011, Jia Zhaoqing and his wife were illegally arrested for distributing truth-clarifying brochures. They were detained in the Changzhou No. 1 and No. 2 Detention Centers for more than five months. As a form of torture Ms. Han Shuzhen was shackled to a tiger bench for four days and nights. She was also hung from a steel pole under the baking sun. When she protested by holding a hunger strike she was brutally force-fed. Mr. Jia was badly beaten and his mouth and nose started bleeding. His legs became swollen from being repeatedly kicked. The handcuffs cut into the flesh of his hands. Later, Mr. Jia and his wife were both sentenced to two years of forced labor. Ms. Han was detained in Kaiping Forced Labor Camp in Tangshan. On New Year's Day in 2004, she was sentenced to one more year of forced labor instead of being released.

On February 25, 2012, perpetrators from the Changzhou City Political and Legal Committee and the 610 Office broke into Mr. Jia's home using a crane, and illegally arrested him and his wife.

Mr. Jia was detained in Changzhou Detention Center. After only 15 days he was mistreated to the point of his cirrhosis and ascites returning, and his belly and legs became swollen. He was then released due to bad health as a result. Ms. Han was subjected to forced labor and is now detained at Hebei Province Women's Forced Labor Camp in Shijiazhuang.
