(Minghui.org) On February 25, 2012, Mr. Li Yunpeng and his wife Ms. Lu Jianxin from Tangshan were secretly arrested by the Tangshan police. They have been detained in the Tangshan First Detention Center. Their cases have been submitted to the Procuratorate.

Within three months, as a result of mistreatment in custody, Mr. Li Yunpeng had blood in his urine, often felt dizzy, and his face and hands looked grey. He was taken to Ankang Hospital in Tangshan for an “examination” while wearing handcuffs and shackles. On May 13, 2012, the guards saw that he was critically ill. Fearing being held responsible for what might happen, they quickly got him out of the detention center. Mr. Li's family has since taken him to a hospital for emergency treatment. His wife Ms. Lu Jianxin is still being detained in the Tangshan First Detention Center.

Mr. Li Yunpeng, 53, is an engineer at the Vehicle Repair Company of Tangshan Tramway Company, Beiche Group. He was previously very healthy. At work, he is known for being very skilled and easy-going, and someone who takes his reputation lightly. His wife Ms. Lu Jianxin, 49, is an accountant for the Audit Department of Hebei United University (Formerly Hebei Polytechnic University).

On February 25, 2012, at around 6:00 a.m., Mr. Li Yunpeng and Ms. Lu Jianxin were arrested by more then ten officers from the Lubei Police Department, the Domestic Security Division, and the Qiaotun Police Station. Their front door was battered from the police kicking it open. The police ransacked the couple's home and took away two computers, two printers, a DVD burner, and other property. Those on the street watching at around 7:00 a.m., commented on the brutish behavior of the police. According to insiders, someone had been monitoring the couple's home over the previous 24 hours.

In the detention center, Mr. Li Yunpeng and others were forced to recite prison regulations and perform forced labor. Three months later he was experiencing dizziness and had blood in his urine. His face and hands took on a greyish color. He was brought to Ankang Hospital in Tangshan for an “examination” while wearing handcuffs and shackles. He was hospitalized for more than ten days. The hospital did not reveal the results of the examinations to him. On the night of May 13, 2012, the detention center sent several guards to Ankang Hospital and brought a two page “repentance statement.” Mr. Li was then released on bail for medical treatment. At that time, Mr. Li could not see clearly what was written on the paper. Mr. Li requested that the detention center inform his wife about his situation, or allow them to meet. The detention center refused his request. Ankang Hospital and detention center staff were afraid of being held responsible for Mr. Li's condition, so they called a taxi to drive Mr. Li home. Mr. Li went home, and by this time could no longer walk without assistance. He continued to have blood in his urine and would faint in the bathroom. His family and relatives took him to the hospital for emergency treatment. The doctor diagnosed him with bladder cancer and said he needed surgery.

Mr. Li Yunpeng's mother and father-in-law are both over eighty years old. After being threatened, his mother-in-law became ill, and his father-in-law became unsteady on his feet, due to the psychological pressure. Mr. Li is currently hospitalized and his father-in-law goes to the hospital to visit him. Mr. Li's relatives are busy trying to help the couple. Mr. Li's company, the local neighboring committee, and the school where Ms. Lu Jianxin works, tried to bail Ms. Lu. However, the Lubei Domestic Security Division, the Lubei Procuratorate, and the Lubei Court tried to shift responsibility onto each other. The department in charge also exerted pressure on Mr. Li Yunpeng, stating, “You will still be tried after your recovery."
