(Minghui.org) Ms. Wang Meiying and her nephew, Mr. Zhao Fuqiang, are Falun Gong practitioners from Tianshui, Gansu Province. The Tianshui Intermediate Court illegally sentenced Ms. Wang and Mr. Zhao to 3 years and 18 months in prison, respectively, distributing informational materials about Falun Gong.
Ms. Wang started practicing Falun Gong in September 1996. She used to have hepititis and late-stage uterus cancer, and had to stay in bed all day long. One day in September 1996, her husband played Falun Gong exercise music. When she listened to the music, Ms. Wang felt very comfortable and the pain from her illnesses receded. When the music finished playing, Ms. Wang felt like she wanted to eat something. Her children were shocked, because their mother had not had any appetite for a long time beforehand. After this experience, Ms. Wang decided to learn Falun Gong. Once she started practicing Falun Gong and conducting herself according to the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, her health was soon completely restored.
Mr. Zhao started practicing Falun Gong in June 1996, from which time he has strictly conducted himself according to the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. One time, his family and their neighbors, the Yang family, had a dispute over a property line. Mr. Zhao's father had planned to argue with their neighbor, but Mr. Zhao persuaded his father to let the Yang family have the piece of land.
Ms. Wang and Mr. Zhao were distributing informational Falun Gong materials to in Huashuang Village around 11 p.m. on Aug. 10, 2011, when villagers Nie Shunyi and others called the police. Ms. Wang and Mr. Zhao were taken to the police station for interrogation.
The following day, officers from the Longcheng Township Police Station broke into Ms. Wang's home and confiscated the portrait of the founder of Falun Gong and other personal belongings. They also broke into Mr. Zhao's home and confiscated his CD player, Falun Gong books and CDs.
Ms. Wang was subsequently sent to prison for a 3-year term. Mr. Zhao was sentenced to 18 months in prison.
Since the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) launched a brutal campaign to eradicate Falun Gong in 1999, Ms. Wang and her family have been persecuted numerous times. On September 6, 2000, Ms. Wang went to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong. However, she was arrested and transferred from Beijing to a local police station. She was then detained by the Zhangjiachuan County Police Department. On May 3, 2002, officials from the Zhangjiachuan County Police Department extorted 200 yuan from Ms. Wang and her husband, Mr. Zhang Run, for distributing Falun Gong flyers. Ms. Wang, Mr. Zhang, and other practitioners were also detained for 15 days from November 8 to 14, 2002, on the eve of the National Conference of the Communist Party, one of the CCP's sensitive dates.
