(Minghui.org) Doctor Li Guoen worked at Laixi City People's Hospital in Shandong Province. After practicing Falun Gong, he became more responsible and caring toward his patients and did not charge arbitrary fees like other doctors, which earned him great trust from many patients. This good doctor was persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) for his belief in Falun Dafa. After he was illegally sentenced to four years in prison, he was fired by his employer. Four years of brutal persecution in the prison turned this energetic person into a weak, elderly man with white hair.

Below is the Li Guoen's account of the persecution he suffered.

I started to cultivate Falun Gong in 1995. I always followed Master's teaching and used the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance to guide myself. Master Li asked us to become selfless and always think of others, so in my medical practice, after starting to cultivate Falun Gong, I took responsibility for every one of patients and I gained the trust and reliance of countless patients. Falun Dafa enabled me to become a good doctor with great virtue and skills.

In July 1999, the evil CCP and Jiang Zemin's regime started to brutally persecute Falun Gong practitioners. The director of my hospital also started to harass practitioners under pressure from the CCP. Dean Zhao Mingyan ordered all the leaders in the hospital to harass, brainwash, and slander Falun Gong practitioners in the hospital. Section head Lu Honglan tried to force me to write the so-called guarantee statement giving up Falun Gong and told me to hand in my Dafa books. They also did not allow me to take vacations for the holidays. They sent people to monitor me, publicly criticized me in meetings, called me to the meeting room to question me, and withheld awards and promotions in order to have everyone discriminate against us. During that period, I was always under enormous pressure.

Even under such enormous pressure, I did not forget I was a Falun Gong practitioner. I did not have any hate in my heart. I still did my best for my patients until one day in October 2006 when I was arrested.

I was on duty at the internal medicine clinic that day, when police officers Li Weikui and Sui Guoqin from the Laixi City Domestic Security Team and a dozen officers from the Qingdaolu Police Station broke in. They arrested me and confiscated my house key. They took my computer, Dafa books, and other personal belongings. More than ten days before I was arrested, the police had already come to the hospital to get my home address. They arrested me because the CCP's network police in Qingdao City discovered that I explored an overseas website.

Torture reenactment: Both Hands and Feet Handcuffed Together

That night I was detained in the Laixi City Detention Center. Since I did not cooperate with the police and refused to sign the interrogation record, Deputy Chief Xu incited prisoners to beat me and kick me. They also tortured me in a brutal way called “fixing,” in which they handcuffed my hands and feet together and then fixed the handcuff to the ground. My back was always in a twisted position and I could not lie down or sit up. It was very painful and my back felt like it was broken. I was fixed like that for a whole night. My family members went through their connections and finally the detention center stopped “fixing” me.

Under orders from the Qingdao City and Laixi City 610 Office, the judicial system sentenced me to four years. I was imprisoned at the Laixi City Detention Center for over two years. Every day I was forced to get up at 6 a.m. and and not allowed to go to sleep until after 10 p.m. I was not allowed to rest at noon and I was only given half an hour to eat. I was forced to do intensive labor every day. At the end of 2008, I was transferred to the Shandong Province Prison. In the prison, a dozen prisoners lived in a 50-square-foot room. We were only allowed very limited time outside the room. Sometimes we did not see the sun for up to three months. I was not active and had little to eat. My body became weaker and weaker every day.

Still, the physical suffering was secondary. It was the spiritual torture that was the most unbearable. In the prison, the police forced Falun Gong practitioners to watch videos and read books slandering Dafa. We all knew that Dafa and Master were unquestionably righteous, but the evil CCP turned right and wrong upside down and brutally brainwashed us. It was like a knife in my heart.

The prison police also instilled fear among practitioners. They tortured other practitioners in front of me. I saw one practitioner brutally beaten by seven or eight strong prisoners incited by the police until he fainted, because he refused to write the so-called repentance letter. Another practitioner was sent to the prison hospital because of a toothache. The doctor pulled out his tooth without any anesthetics. After he was done, the doctor noticed that he had pulled the wrong tooth. Then he pulled the right tooth, again without any anesthetics. It was really brutal.

Out of fear of brutal torture, I wrote the repentance letter against my will. This is my greatest shame and it is also a stain on my cultivation path. I felt I let Master down and I felt very guilty for a long time. After continuous Fa study and with other practitioners' encouragement, I was able to make it through the tribulations.

In 2009, Laixi City Health Bureau head Zhang Yu sent someone to the prison to have me sign a letter. I had been illegally dismissed by my employer. Just for believing in Falun Gong, I was persecuted by the evil CCP, and a highly recognized doctor was now unemployed.

After I was arrested, my family was without happiness or peace. My wife went everywhere trying to rescue me. My son faced the challenge of the college entrance exam. Neither my mother nor my mother-in-law was healthy. My mother-in-law had heart disease, myocardial infarction, and a stroke. She was repeatedly hospitalized. Eventually she was transferred to the hospital in Qingdao and had bypass surgery. My wife was not only responsible for our high school-aged son, but also had to take care of her sick mother, go to work, and worry about me. She often traveled several hundred kilometers to visit me in prison. She endured great tribulations and could not sleep or eat well. She became extremely thin. All the burdens and pressure lay on my wife's shoulders. When I was imprisoned, my mother got worse because she missed me, and she passed away.
