(Minghui.org) On December 7, 2012, a cold and snowy day, Yuhua District Court put Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Sun Tao on trial. Ms. Sun's righteous and stern words made the public prosecutor unable to put forward any convincing arguments. He left the courtroom halfway through the proceedings.
On the day of the trial, there were several dozen policemen and plainclothes policemen in and outside of the Yuhua District Court in Shijiazhuang. Nobody was allowed to enter the courthouse gate, and the public was told there was “major activity” inside. Many uniformed and plainclothes police officers and police cars were stationed near the courthouse compound. There were only three family members inside the courtroom with about a dozen plainclothes policemen sitting behind then. All of Ms. Sun's other relatives were forbidden to enter.
Ms. Sun's family hired a lawyer to defend her and to plead not guilty. To counter the accusations of public prosecutor Cao Xiangrong against Ms. Sun, her lawyer pointed out that it is completely legal to practice Falun Gong and tell others about it, that there is no law in China that states that Falun Gong is a “cult,” and that the charge of “using a cult organization to sabotage the implementation of the law” has no foundation in law.
Ms. Sun's lawyer also pointed out that the police officers who made the arrest claimed Ms. Sun transported empty DVD cases for Shen Yun DVDs in her car. The indictment accused Ms. Sun of “getting ready to spread Falun Gong pamphlets.” The two statements contradicted each other. Moreover, it is completely legal to hand out Falun Gong pamphlets in public.
Ignoring the facts, public prosecutor Cao Xiangrong slandered Falun Gong and made false statements against Ms. Sun. Ms. Sun protested Cao's accusations sternly: “First, the self-immolation at Tiananmen Square was staged. Falun Dafa forbids suicide or else I would not be standing here. Second, our Teacher has never talked about this so-called 'disaster.' On the contrary, Master said 'the catastrophe no longer exists.'("Suggestions Given at the Beijing Falun Dafa Assistants Meeting" from Explaining the Content of Falun Dafa). Third, I used to be in bad shape both physically and mentally. I had severe rheumatoid arthritis and anemia and was unable to work full time. I became healthy 20 days after I started to practice Falun Gong, I worked very hard and had a good reputation at my school. Fourth, although I was divorced ten years ago, because I am a Falun Dafa practitioner, I support my ex-husband's parents and take care of them. My ex-husband is the legal guardian of our child, but the child still lives with me and is being raised by me. Practicing Falun Gong is not wrong, I have not broken any law. Those who wrongly bring false charges against me will be judged by the legal system.
After Ms. Sun finished speaking, the public prosecutor, Cao Xiangrong, lost his arrogance and lowered his head. Cao left the courtroom while Ms. Sun's lawyer was delivering his defense.
Ms. Sun has been detained for nearly ten months and has been diagnosed with active hepatitis and tested positive for HbsAg, HbeAg and HBC. Her family is worried about her health.
