(Minghui.org) My husband developed rectal cancer in 1997. He had some medical knowledge and knew that modern medicine had no successful treatment for this disease. Besides, due to our economic situation at the time, we could not afford expensive medical fees. He decided to stay home and wait for death. A young man then recommended Falun Gong to him. My husband finished reading Zhuan Falun in one night. He was a Buddhist and knew a lot about cultivation practice. After reading the book, he recognized that it was the ultimate book on cultivation practice, so he decided to practice Falun Gong sincerely.

Not long after he started practicing, his cancer was cured. He had had a concussion and now had heart disease, gastroptosis, arthritis, renal calculus, and other ailments. But all of them disappeared gradually with his practice of Falun Gong. My husband obtained a new life, and he looked much younger.

From then on, my husband began to spread the Fa. I was doing business in another city at that time. I had not read any Dafa books, nor did I know whether Dafa was good or not. But the truth was that my husband was healed, so I let him go and do whatever he liked, as long as he was no longer ill.

In 1999, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started the persecution of Falun Gong. My husband went to Beijing that year to appeal for Falun Gong because it had saved his life. He knew Dafa was very good, and he wanted to go to the proper government agencies to explain the truth and clarify the misunderstandings. However, officers from our local police station brought him back and illegally imprisoned him for a month. I hurried home as soon as I heard. When I arrived, I saw that it had been ransacked. I later discovered that people in my neighborhood had been assigned by the police to watch my family. The police told my husband to report to the station every day or face arrest. They were afraid that he would go to Beijing again. Officers often went to look for my child at school as well. I was very scared, and my endurance reached the limit. When the persecution first started, I was scared by the bloody scenes on television. Although I did not believe in them all, I still had some doubt. My relatives believed the lies and would not allow me to live with my husband. Influenced by them, I began to interfere with him.

I didn't want him to practice Falun Gong anymore. He did not listen to me, so I berated him and tore up his book and materials. I also cursed Dafa at every opportunity. It was well known in the area that I was against Falun Gong.

At the end of 2000, my husband went to Beijing again. This time he was sentenced to forced labor for three years. When I found out, I got even angrier and thought that he was irresponsible and not qualified to be my husband. I decided to divorce him. But I went to the court and presented my complaint to the judge, I was told that Falun Gong practitioners were special cases, and my case was placed on hold. I had to go on doing business in another city. The section chief at the labor camp called and told me that other practitioners' relatives had visited their family members, and I was the only one who had not. They asked me to visit him if I had a chance. Venting my hatred, I berated my husband when I saw him, until the section chief interrupted me. He said, “Please stop. Falun Gong practitioners are all good people.” I was distracted by his words. How could a policeman say that? I asked, “Then why did you arrest good people and put them in prison? Why don’t you set them free? What prison keeps good people? Why don’t you arrest bad people like me?” The section chief said, “It’s the decision from higher authorities. It’s none of my business.” The section chief saw me out and asked me to take better care of my husband.

I went back and continued taking care of my business.

Ever since I had started badmouthing Dafa, my business had taken a turn for the worse. Within three years I had lost all my funds—hundreds of thousands of yuan. After learning Dafa later, I understood that my business failure and illnesses were retribution for defaming Dafa. At that time, I almost gave up the will to live. Our house was about to collapse, but I could not get any money for my business. I was too embarrassed to see my husband or my father-in-law. My child and husband called me and said, “If you lost money, so be it! Just please come home.” I returned home on the eve of the 2003 Chinese New Year and was totally surprised to see a new house with five rooms instead of the old one with two rooms about to fall over. It had been completely renovated as well. I could not believe that this was my home. The money for rebuilding the house came from fellow practitioners.

I was deeply moved to see that there were still good people in the world. Even though we were not friends or family, they had helped us with what they had saved.

Under the pressure, I had a nervous breakdown. In addition, the karma that I created earlier by cursing Dafa led to severe illnesses. My husband tried to persuade me to learn Dafa. I refused and said, “You can keep studying if you think Dafa is good. Don't push me. Do you want me to go to prison with you?” In fact, I had many unresolved problems in my heart.

One day I was at home and had nothing to do. I was sitting on my kang (a heatable brick bed in northern China) and saw a book. I casually turned some pages, and the words “Wealth with Virtue” appeared before my eyes. I went on reading:

“The ancients said, 'Money is something external to this physical body.' Everyone knows it, yet everyone pursues it. A young man seeks it to satisfy his desires; a young woman wants it for glamour and luxury; an elderly person goes after it to take care of himself in his old age; a learned person desires it for his reputation; a public official fulfills his duty for it, and so on. Thus, everybody pursues it.

“Some people even compete and fight for it; those who are aggressive take risks for it; hot-tempered people resort to violence for it; jealous people might die for it in anger. It is the duty of the ruler and officials to bring wealth to the populace, yet promotion of money-worship is the worst policy one could adopt. Wealth without virtue (de) will harm all sentient beings, while wealth with virtue is what all people hope for. Therefore, one cannot be affluent without advocating virtue.

“Virtue is accumulated in past lives. Becoming a king, an official, wealthy, or nobility all come from virtue. No virtue, no gain; the loss of virtue means the loss of everything. Thus, those who seek power and wealth must first accumulate virtue. By suffering hardships and doing good deeds one can accumulate virtue among the masses. To achieve this, one must understand the principle of cause and effect. Knowing this can enable officials and the populace to exercise self-restraint, and prosperity and peace will thereby prevail under heaven.” (“Wealth with Virtue,” Essentials for Further Advancement)

After reading this section, I wondered who had written it, it was so insightful. With concise words, the article concludes with the principles to guide both a king and the common people. Why did I lose hundreds of thousands of yuan? It was because I didn’t have virtue. I saw that the author of the article was Mr. Li Hongzhi. I kept on reading:

“When people do not have virtue, natural calamities and man-made disasters will abound. When the earth does not have virtue, everything will wither and fall. When heaven deviates from the Dao, the ground will crack, the sky will collapse, and the whole universe will be empty. When the Fa is right, the universe will be right. Life will flourish, heaven and earth will be stable, and the Fa will exist forever.” (“the Fa is Right,” Essentials for Further Advancement)

I was shocked to realize what Falun Gong really was. It was totally different from what I saw on television.

Later, I started reading Dafa books purposefully. I seemed to change a lot after reading the books. My mental state returned to normal, and all my illnesses disappeared. At that time, the town chief found me a job at the nursing home. During that time, I finished reading all the Dafa books. All the Fa principles were presented before me. I completely understood that Dafa was here to save people. I gave myself fully to Dafa and regretted obtaining Dafa so late, so I studied more diligently. I did the five exercises morning and night. I studied and listened to the Fa whenever I had time. I also told others about Dafa. The people I knew were surprised and said, “You were against Falun Gong and you really badmouthed it. Why are you practicing yourself now, even more diligently than your husband?” I replied, “You don’t know Falun Gong. What the TV says is not true. Falun Gong asks people to be good and to behave according to the standard of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. It can also help cure diseases. If you abide by the standard, your heart will be calm. Then you won’t be ill.” The Fa has higher inner meanings at higher levels, but that was what I comprehended at my level at that time. They indeed saw that I was healthier and in a better mental state. Because of the change in my attitude, some of my relatives began studying Dafa as well.

At work, I behaved according to the standard of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. The nursing home is a special place where many elderly people and kids with mental illnesses live. Most of them have strange temperaments and are hard to take care of. They sometimes created difficulties on purpose and watched what I said and did. Past staff members beat and yelled at them. The home failed its sanitary inspection every time. After I started working there, it passed every inspection and was recognized as a qualified establishment at the provincial level. The old people there began to speak politely. I took care of their every need. Some of the male patients had suffered strokes and would sometimes leave excrement on their bodies, beds, quilts, door—everywhere. They didn’t clean it up themselves and asked the staff to clean them while standing there stark naked. No one else there except me was a Falun Gong practitioner. I took the initiative to clean them patiently and without any resentment. Some of the old people cursed at me. Some even asked me to buy them food while verbally abusing me. At first, I, too, felt it was unfair. As I studied the Fa, I remembered that Master told us to be good people. So I used my greatest mercy to meet their demands. My colleagues said, “You are so kind to them. Why do you buy them food when they ask you? If I were you, I would have given them a beating a long time ago.” I said, “I am different from you. I am a practitioner, and I have to behave according to Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. Master asked us not to ‘fight back when being punched or insulted’ (Zhuan Falun).” Thus, I gained the approval of my supervisors, colleagues, and many elderly residents there. Some liked to tell me their stories and never created difficulties for me again.

I later became homeless to avoid persecution. They missed me and said that there was no better person on staff than me.

I promoted Dafa publicly at work and gave out copies of Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party. In 2005, I started to encourage people to quit the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). I helped CCP members where I worked quit. However, someone who did not know the truth reported me. One day, the president said, “The town chief is here and wants me to talk to you. He asked me to deal with this. Otherwise, all the other employees will be involved.” He then led me to his office. The town chief was sitting inside. He was in his 50s. He said in a serious tone, “How did you start practicing Falun Gong?” He criticized me for half an hour. The president, vice president, and other colleagues were standing there, frightened.

I stood there and said nothing. After he finished, I said, “Chief, please give me ten minutes. I have something to tell you. If you want to know whether something is right or wrong, you have to get to know it. The book of Falun Gong is thick, but it tells only three words—Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance.” “What does it mean?” he asked. I said, “To tell the truth, do true things, and be a true person.” He said, “Good!” I continued, “Compassion means being kind to everybody.” The chief said, “Good!” “Forbearance means never fight back when being punched or insulted. In my situation, the old people cursed at me and created difficulties for me, but I never said a word. I endured it all. Don’t you think that is good?” The town chief said, “Good, good, good! You should keep doing things this way. If anyone makes trouble for you in the future, you come see me.” At that point, the people standing around breathed a sigh of relief. After the chief left, they said, “Falun Gong practitioners are terrific!” From then on, they called me “Falun.”

Since I have been practicing Falun Gong, I feel happy, relaxed, and fortunate as I never had before. I also feel comfortable and fulfilled. I feel my life is meaningful. I hope everyone can learn about and practice Falun Dafa. Without a doubt, you will benefit endlessly.
