(Clearwisdom.net) In 2003, Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Gao Qingfei suffered a mental collapse as a result of torture, which included food deprivation, forced labor, brainwashing, etc., during his incarceration in a Chinese prison. He died miserably in early 2011. The following is a narration of Mr. Gao's persecution was written by his wife Ms. Zhou Hongrong.

My name is Zhou Hongrong. I am 64 years old. Gao Qingfei was my husband. He started practicing Falun Gong in January 1998. Before he obtained the Fa, his health was okay but his temper was very bad. After he took up the practice, he became a new person. He studied the Fa every day with calmness. He always used Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance to gauge his behavior. He became a very kind person and he loved to help people. He also became much healthier, and we lived together under one roof harmoniously. I often said, “Lao Gao has changed into a new person!”

I witnessed the beauty of Dafa through him, and in April 1998, I also took up the practice. Shortly after that, the bronchitis, rheumatoid arthritis, and other diseases that used to bother me disappeared. Dafa purified my body, mind, and spirit. At that time, my whole family was truly blessed by the Buddha light of Master and Falun Dafa.

On July 20, 1999, when Falun Dafa was slandered and attacked by the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) lies, my husband and I weren't moved at all by the propaganda. We continued with the practice as usual.

In July 2000, officers from the Xiaodianzi Police Station ordered Yang, a village cadre from Tuanshan Village, to summon my husband to the police station. They made threats, demanding that he renounce the practice, “You can leave here if you say 'No!' to the practice.” He firmly replied, “My answer is 'Yes!'” Irritated, the police sent him to Donggang City where he was detained for two weeks. The detention center in Donggang City extorted 400 yuan from him before he was released.

At about 5:00 p.m. on May 28, 2003, officers from the Xiaodianzi Police Station ordered my husband to come to the precinct. After he arrived, they asked him if he still wanted to practice Falun Gong. He said, “Yes!” Because of this, Zhang Guiqi, Wang Xingjiang, Wang Yanjun, Fan Tongliang, and Wang Quanchao, etc. detained him and a practitioner named Chen Xiping from Xiaodianzi Town for one night. The next morning, despite pouring rain, they transported them to the county stockade in Donggang City. Thirteen days later, they were transferred to the detention center Donggang City.

The police started ordering prisoners to hit them as soon as they arrived at the detention center. A prisoner, who went by the nickname “Xiaodonggang,” ordered Mr. Gao to take off his shoes. Because he wasn't as quick as that prisoner wanted, he slapped Mr. Gao on the face repeatedly. The police also ordered prisoners to convert Mr. Gao's thinking with the evil Party's lies and fallacies which they called “brainwashing.” They tried to force him to recite the so-called prison regulations, but he refused to do it.

About a week later, in order to make money for themselves, the police started forcing them to do slave labor – gluing plastic flowers. This kind of work was very harmful to the human body, due to the materials used, which were low-quality, toxic plastics that emanated a pungent odor. They were forced to work from morning until 9:00 or 10:00 p.m. They felt nauseous and uncomfortable from inhaling the toxic fumes all day. They were sometimes forced to work until 1:00 or 2:00 a.m. if they didn't meet the quota. If they still couldn't finish it, the police ordered inmates to hit and kick them.

“Xiaodonggang” kicked Mr. Gao with a high heel, causing swelling and a blister on his lumbar vertebrae. The police didn't seem to want to spare him. They also continued to instruct inmates to deprive him of sleep.

Fellow practitioner Mr. Chen Xiping, upon seeing the injustice and cruelty against Mr. Gao, shouted to the police, “He is as old as your father. How can you torture him like this?” The police said fiercely, “Shut up!” then started beating them. This time, Mr. Gao was unable to get up, due to the brutal beating. During mealtime, his food was taken away by other inmates. As a result, he was very hungry while still being forced to work. He became very thin and lifeless due to the physical and psychological torture inflicted by the police.

In mid-August 2003, Mr. Gao became emaciated to the point that his bones protruded and he experienced a mental collapse. Even under such circumstances, the Donggang City Public Security Bureau sent him to a penitentiary in Dandong City where he experienced continued persecution. At that time, Mr. Gao became mentally disoriented. Nevertheless, the police still forced him to sign a document renouncing his faith. When our daughter went to see him in the penitentiary, she had to give them about 1,000 yuan.

On the morning of August 31, 2003, Mr. Gao and another twenty-plus practitioners were transferred from Dangdong City to the forced labor camp in Benxiwei Town, where they were met with more persecution. At that time, Mr. Gao lost his mental stability. His blood pressure reached 280 and he had frequent heart attacks. The labor camp asked his family to come and pick him up. His family spent about 450 yuan in travel expenses in order to bring him home near the end of November. After he returned home, his health improved, however in December, officials from the Weiningying Forced Labor Camp in Benxi summoned Mr. Gao to go there again. Mr. Gao's son went with him. This made him very nervous. His blood pressure climbed and he had another heart attack when they arrived in the labor camp. He again became mentally disoriented. The labor camp refused to take him, and he was taken home.

Mr. Gao then suffered a complete mental collapse. He lost his memory and his blood pressure remained high. He also lost the ability to work. Other than eating and returning home during rainy and stormy weather, he was incapable of doing anything that an ordinary person could. He wandered about the streets all year round until his death seven years later.

In early 2011, he died at age 63. The persecution that Mr. Gao went through had caused

indescribable pain for his family. From May 2003 to early 2011, the economic impact on Mr. Gao's family caused by the persecution was at least 50,000 yuan.
