(Clearwisdom.net) Teacher has taught us more than once that we should clearly distinguish the origin of our every thought, and to consider whether each thought is our own or from outside interference. I'm sure many Dafa practitioners may have experienced the occurrence of a thought suddenly surfacing in our minds. For instance, a thought may arise in those of us who have been arrested in China. We think, "Let's just sign a statement renouncing Falun Gong as the authorities are demanding us to do, and we can worry about the rest after we get out." In the event we weighed the situation with the Fa's principles yet mistook this thought as our own, we would be led astray one step after another.

Which thought is truly our own, and which is outside interference? How could these outside factors interfere with cultivators? In the past I was clearheaded and yet muddleheaded from time to time, but today after reading from Minghui.org (Chinese version of Clearwisdom.net) it all became clear. And so I looked up Teacher's lectures and began studying the following principle:

"So what functions does the human brain have? As I see it, in the form of this physical dimension, the human brain is only a processing factory. The actual message is sent forth by the Primordial Spirit. What is transmitted, however, is not language, but a message of the universe that represents a certain meaning. Upon receiving such a command, our brains will process this into our present language or other such forms of expression; we express it through hand gesturing, eye contact, and complete movement. The brain has only this effect. The actual commands and thoughts come from one's Primordial Spirit." (Zhuan Falun, Lecture Nine)

Teacher told us before that the real you is your Primordial Spirit. However the Primordial Spirit transmits its messages through the brain and we, then, manifest them as speech and other forms of expression. This [the author submits] provides an opening to outside factors to interfere with our minds. In the Three Realms all sorts of things are in an endless stream of motion, which could be stationed in any part of our bodies. If a person's thought is upright, these things would have no effect. On the other hand, if a person has some sort of attachment that has yet to be discarded in cultivation, and said attachment coincides with the outside factor, such openings may be exploited as a reflection in our minds. Once taken as our own thought, the trouble becomes real. And so this is why we must study the Fa abundantly. Teacher has explained to us very clearly. Once you enlighten to this, no one is able to easily interfere with your thoughts.
