(Clearwisdom.net) On November 19, 2007, the police arrested Mr. Zhang Xianying for distributing Falun Gong materials, and they took him to the Jiusan Detention Center. He was later sentenced to six years at Tailai Prison. On January 25, 2010, under direction of the prison guards, an inmate named Feng Jun severely beat Mr. Zhang, disabling him. He could not move from the waist down, and his speech was impaired. His family requested that he be released on bail for medical treatment, but the prison authorities refused.
Previous Persecution
In 2000 and again in 2002, Mr. Zhang was thrown into a brainwashing center by the local 610 Office. Mr. Zhang was forced to pay for the wages and food of the perpetrators at the brainwashing center. If he refused, the authorities would force a deduction from his personal account opened at his workplace. During the same period of time, he was also illegally detained three times, and his home was ransacked.
In September 2002, Mr. Zhang was arrested by the local police, and he was detained for two months and three days. Then, he was taken to the Jiusan Detention Center, where he was persecuted for another three months. Afterwards, he was sentenced to three years of forced labor in Bei'an Prison, where he was tortured. For six months, he was chained to a metal ring that was anchored in the ground. He was not unshackled even when he had to use the bathroom. Every day he was offered only two meals that consisted of a small black-colored bun and a bowl of gruel with a little rice in it. He was beaten regularly, forced to squat with two arms stretched straight and forward, deprived of sleep, and his face was burned with cigarettes. On December 2, 2005, he was released after serving the full term.
