(Clearwisdom.net) TAIPEI, Taiwan--Attracted by the world-renowned reputation of the Shen Yun Performing Arts group, crowds of people arrived early and eagerly gathered at the entrances of the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall.
Mr. Li Chiao, former national policy adviser to the president, came from Miaoli to attend Shen Yun Performing Arts. A famous littérateur in Taiwan who won the National Award for Arts in 2006, Li's literary work Cold Night Trilogy enjoys great popularity in Taiwan. This novel was revised to produce a Hakka TV series in 2002 by the Taiwan Public Television Service.
Mr. Li highly praised all aspects of the show, "Especially, the artistic presentation using hi-tech dynamic backdrops is something that I have never seen before. The backdrop was so vivid that I almost mistook it as being real."
Mr. Li Chiao, former national policy adviser to the president, came from Miaoli to watch the show
For a long time Mr. Li said he held specific thoughts about "how to remedy Chinese culture." What pleasantly surprised him was that the Shen Yun performance had achieved what he has been looking for. "Shen Yen has sufficiently and perfectly displayed the quintessence and the wonderfulness of Chinese culture." Li added that the Shen Yun performance "rehabilitates the truth about Chinese Culture."
Mr. Li did not disguise his identity as a critic of the alarming decline of culture and morals in China. He explained, "The ongoing destruction of Chinese culture by the Chinese Communist regime during the recent 50 years has deprived the Chinese people of their authenticity, an essential element for cultural presentations. Put in a simple way, the China governed by the Chinese Communist Party makes the people in Taiwan feel uneasy."
Continuing to praise the show, Mr. Li said, "In addition to artist presentation, the show also contains ingredients of enlightenment. Enlightening human hearts and educating human society are very good." He gave high praise to Shen Yun's objectives to retrieve and revive the orthodox culture for human beings.
Mr. Li admired Falun Gong practitioners' steadfast perseverance in their beliefs even though they are persecuted in China. He said that he had seen several peaceful appeals by Falun Gong groups in some cities when he lived in Canada. As he understood and supported Falun Gong's appeal of "Stopping Illegal Persecution," he would join the practitioners in their peaceful appeals even though these activities were frequently being harassed by the Chinese Communist regime.
Former Diplomat Sheds Tears During the Show
Mr. Pu Wu-hsiung, former director at Japan Interchange Association in Taiwan, attended the fourth performance of Shen Yun Performing Arts' in Taipei on the afternoon of March 21. Moved by the performance, he said, "Shen Yun performance is very good. Its magnificence is beyond my original imagination. I didn't want to leave at the end of the show!"
Mr. Pu said the performances deeply affected him, "Shen Yun performance deeply touched me because it can illustrate the entire story in an exquisite, delicate and pure manner. Shen Yun performance affected me so much that I shed tears during the show."
The first program The Emperor Ushers in a Glorious Age describes how the Lord Buddha descended to the human world accompanied by many celestial kings to establish a divinely inspired culture. Mr. Pu said he was surprised by the positive energy he felt during this performance. "When the curtain opened, Wow! The vigor of this program was so magnificent and it was collocated with an orchestra, fully conveying the program's artistic conception. I was deeply moved."
Mr. Pu also said he appreciated seeing the various areas of China represented in the performances. "Not until I read the introduction in the program booklet did I realize that Shen Yun Performing Arts group comprises elites from all fields," he added.
The dance drama Nothing Can Block the Divine Path has touched the hearts of audience members world-wide. During the performances in Taipei many were moved to tears. Mr. Pu said in an emotional tone, "The play describing Chinese communist regime's persecution against Falun Gong can be easily understood at a glance. No need to make extra interpretations. I think such kind of idiosyncrasy is very good."
University Department Chair Deeply Touched
Mr. Luo Wen-Kun, Associate professor and Chair of the Department of Advertising at the Chinese Culture University, joined the highly appreciative audience attending Shen Yun Performing Arts' fourth show in Taipei. "Overwhelming!" he said, "The only feeling I have is overwhelming." He commended Shen Yun for bringing such a brilliant performance of traditional Chinese culture to Taipei.
Mr. Luo said that the backdrops and the performances interacted with each other so well that it created a three-dimensional atmosphere. Without the need for vocal expressions, the famous historic stories were fully illustrated. "This is a great innovative show. The program is compact, solid and not vulgar."
He said that he was profoundly moved by the opening program The Emperor Ushers in a Glorious Age, because he saw various higher beings had descended to earth to save people. "When the Buddhas and gods descended from heaven to the earth on the backdrops, the music was matching perfectly. The music played by the live orchestra made the show even more astonishing and overwhelming. The orchestra's performance matched perfectly with the dances, which added up to the success of the show, and made me feel as if I were within the scene in person." Mr. Luo was very pleased that the Shen Yun Orchestra came to Taiwan for the first time.
Mr. Luo said that he loved every program, but The Buddha's Teachings Spread Far and Wide and Splitting the Mountain touched him the most, because the programs "illustrated the divine culture to the audience in the most natural way and interpreted the Chinese culture so appropriately and subtly." He also said that he was very touched and he admired Shun Yun very much for carrying out its mission of reviving the authentic human culture.
The song "Calmly Take a Look" sung by tenor Hong Ming also touched him. He said that Hong Ming's voice was very powerful and extremely penetrating. "From his voice and the lyrics on the backdrops, I could feel the spirit of truthfulness, compassion and tolerance advocated by Falun Gong. After seeing the show, I have further understanding about Falun Gong."
In conclusion, he said joyfully, "It is hard to come by such authentic Chinese dance. I will share with more people the delight of watching the show and bring my friends here. I definitely will come again next year."
