In September 2009, after being detained for nine months, Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Hong Zhenyan was illegally sentenced to three years in prison after the Political and Legal Committee in Wafangdian City pressured the Judicial and Public Security Department.
On the evening of April 23, 2009, Mr. Hong drove to Delisi Town in Wafangdian City to clarify the truth about Falun Gong and the persecution. He was consequently beaten by two police officers until he was covered with injuries. He was then taken to Wafangdian Detention Center.
Under orders from Director Jiu Jun, officers from the Cultural Protection office of the Public Security Bureau and police station ransacked Mr. Hong's home on April 24, 2009. After Mr. Hong was detained, his family repeatedly went to Delisi Police Station to request his release and asked them to return his car, which had been confiscated. However, the deputy director of the station, Huang Yiaoqun, who was directly responsible for Mr. Hong's arrest, claimed that he had nothing to do with it, and that he got the order from Jiu Jun, director of the Cultural Protection office of the Public Security Bureau.
From May through September 2009, Mr. Hong Zhenyan was brought to trial by the Wafangdian Procuratorate. A staff member from the Procuratorate said that the political and legal committee of Wafangdian City forced them to do it. In September 2009, the Wafangdian court held a hearing and sentenced Mr. Hong to three years in prison on false accusations. He is still being held at Wafangdiao Detention Center.
