(Clearwisdom.net) The Jilin Yitong County Court and 610 Office have prevented lawyers from defending handicapped Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Du Liming, whom police officer Wang Yingchao and others from the Domestic Security Team of Yitong Police Department had taken into custody. It happened while she was distributing Shen Yun CDs. She is now in the Yitong Detention Center.
The Yitong County 610 Office and Yitong County Court scheduled a trial for Ms. Du on September 10, 2010. Ms. Du's family hired two lawyers from Beijing on September 9.
As soon as the lawyers submitted documentation to the court, three Yitong County 610 Office agents, including head Cui Limin, spoke with the lawyers and made three rules:
Lawyers from out of town were not allowed to be involved in the case; No meetings were allowed between Ms. Du and the lawyers; The lawyers were forbidden from presenting a defense during the trial and were not permitted to even to appear in court. Hard measures would be enforced if these rules were not followed.
These rules outraged Ms. Du's family and friends. They appealed with righteous people, to help stop the crimes and protect propriety and things guaranteed under the Chinese constitution.
Ms. Du, 46, developed severe rheumatoid arthritis during child-birth. Her arms became deformed, and she couldn't bend her legs. She was paralyzed for almost seven years, during which time she could not even hold a telephone. Ms. Du was eventually introduced to Falun Gong and started practicing. Soon her mental and physical health improved and she could take care of herself again. To help more people benefit from Falun Gong, she has used different ways to introduce Falun Gong to people. But she has often been harassed, intimidated, and even arrested for doing so.
