(Clearwisdom.net) Shen Yun Performing Arts' debut in the old seacoast town of Portland had a profound impact on those who attended the performance at Merrill Auditorium on Saturday, September 19. Mr. Heimans and Ms. Wakefield were among the audience of the packed theater. "Spectacular, spectacular!" enthused Ms. Wakefield, a health care worker.

Mr. Heimans, who works as an investor, agreed. "There's raw power," he said, describing his overall impression of the show.

Ms. Wakefield commented on the costumes. "My favorite part was the one with the pink fans and the drums. I love fans, just the grace and how they use them."

Both felt that the show was very uplifting. "Very moving. The whole show is very moving," said Ms. Wakefield.

Throughout the many cities Shen Yun has toured to, several audience members have expressed that Shen Yun should perform in mainland China. It has sold out theaters in Taiwan and has received great acclaim there.

"It's hard to capture a history that large in one performance. It did open up a lot of very nice elements of the culture. It's put together in a very, very nice way--it's just beautiful," said Mr. Heimans.

Mr. Heimens was amazed at how beautifully the Western and Asian instruments blended, and said the music played with the erhu, a two-stringed bowed instrument, "was powerful and I was very impressed."

Family Attends Shen Yun Again: "So Lovely"

Mr. Landolfi, a businessman, his wife and their daughter joined the enthusiastic audience in welcoming Shen Yun to Portland. After the family saw Shen Yun perform two years ago in New York, they were very pleased to see the show come to Maine.

"The costumes are beautiful, the dancing is wonderful also. The singing! The last man that sang, had a voice like I've never heard before. It was so lovely," Mrs. Landolfi said.

Mrs. Landolfi was also pleased by the educational side of the show. Shen Yun portrays in classical Chinese dance and music heroic ancient legends, modern tales of courage and diverse ethnic traditions.

"A little bit of the history has been good for my daughter. It has made her enjoy a little more of the show also."

"Overwhelming"

Mr. Kaknes is a company president. He and his wife greatly enjoyed seeing Shen Yun for the first time.

"The interesting thing for me is the artistic aspect," Mr. Kaknes said. "What is most overwhelming is the synchronicity of everything."

He said he was also impressed by the thunderous drum rhythms in "Drummers of the Tang Court" and "Mongolian Chopsticks."

"Great, Uplifting Experience"

Also in the audience was chef Mr. St. Laurent and a group of friends.

"The show was very good," Mr. St. Laurent said heartily. "I just want to say that it is wonderful to meet everybody. I have had a great, uplifting experience!"
