(Clearwisdom.net) Recently there was a family matter I needed someone's opinion on. I felt that the person involved was very cunning and eccentric while talking to people, so whenever I met him, I always closed my heart and was insincere when talking to him.
Before meeting with him this time, I thought about what I needed to say to him and how to be clever myself. As soon as this thought surfaced, I realized it wasn't right. Being a Falun Dafa practitioner, I should conduct myself according to the standard of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. Therefore, I decided that it didn't matter how cunning he tried to be, I should always treat him honestly and manifest a practitioner's kindness. Actually during our conversations, I discovered that when he smiled, he looked as pure as a child, and when he talked, he behaved simply and naturally. I realized that it was the power of mercy that had changed him, which was as Teacher had said,
"Compassion can harmonize Heaven and Earth, ushering in spring
Righteous thoughts can save the people in this world"
("The Fa Rectifies the Cosmos" from Hong Yin II)
Later after I read a sharing article in "Minghui Weekly", I had a new understanding about this matter. I took this person as my mirror image, deeply looking inward to find my own shortcomings. I discovered my own self-conceit often followed my speech and behavior. I always expected others to respect me. I wanted people to compliment me and this kept them away. These attachments have energy in other dimensions which not only disturbs others but also dilutes my benevolence. It was my attachments that had caused people to show their ill-natured sides.
During the process of taking someone as a mirror image to look inward and find my own attachments, I experienced the mystery of looking inward while encountering a conflict. I found that when dealing with difficult situations, if I look inward, I am able to find my own attachment. If I let go of the attachment, the problem is solved automatically, and I experience immense delight as expansive as the skies, and a lightened body. This is cultivation and the breakthrough of a level.
