(Clearwisdom.net) On August 12, 2008, Ms. Zhang Chenglan, a Falun Gong practitioner from Jinan City, Shandong Province, was arrested. She was later sentenced to one and a half years in the Shandong Province First Women's Forced Labor Camp. Camp personnel have repeatedly denied Ms. Zhang Chenglan's son's requests to visit his mother. Before the Chinese New Year, he was turned away again.
January 22, 2009, was the date that prisoners in the 4th group were allowed to be visited by their family or friends. When Ms. Zhang's husband and son came to visit her, the staff person in the visiting room, Zhao Jie, and a guard in the 4th group, Han, wouldn't let them see her. They claimed that she had already had a visitor that month, and an inmate could only be visited once a month. Zhang Chenglan's husband told them with patience, "She has never had a chance to see her son since she was jailed. As mothers, you all should understand how a mother would like to visit with her son!"
However, no matter how Ms. Zhang's husband tried to persuade them, they firmly rejected their request and kicked them out of the visiting room when the room was about to close. Father and son then called someone in the administrative department, Tian Wei. Tian Wei gave them the same answer and hung up, not answering the phone again. Actually, the whole thing has been specially arranged by the camp personnel. Their intent is to keep Ms. Zhang Chenglan from meeting with her husband and son.
On January 15, 2009, someone at the labor camp called Zhang Chenglan's niece and asked that her relatives come to the camp to visit Ms. Zhang. Since Zhang Chenglan's son was on winter break, he went there to visit his mother, also. The guard of the 4th group, Han, asked him, "How do you feel about your parents practicing Falun Gong?" He answered, "I don't oppose it." Han got angry immediately and said, "I won't allow you to visit your mother!" Zhang Chenglan's relatives asked for lenience, but Han was firm about it and kicked Ms. Zhang's son out of the visiting room.
One of Zhang Chenglan's distant relatives is a policeman. On January 20, he had to work in the camp and requested a visit with her. Those in charge were happy to arrange it. This visit was later used as an excuse to deny the visit of her son.
I would like to call for the concern of all the family members of the Falun Gong practitioners currently jailed in this camp. Pay special attention to the condition of your family members and disclose all of the criminal behaviors that take place in the camp.
