Central News Agency: CIPFG Calls on the European Union to Urge Beijing to Stop the Persecution of Falun Gong
(Clearwisdom.net) The Central News Agency reported on August 6, 2008 that as the Beijing Olympics draw near, representatives of the Coalition to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong (CIPFG) delivered a petition to the European Union Executive Commission, calling for the EU to help urge the Chinese Communist regime to stop the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners.
The petition has obtained signatures from 1.3 million people in 133 countries, and has been delivered to the American and Australian governments and the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
For fear that the Chinese Communist regime will deal strictly with Falun Gong practitioners, CIPFG launched a global "Millions of Signatures" petition campaign against the persecution.
According to CIPFG, the aim of the campaign is to help people from around the world, through the petition, to request of their governments, parliaments, the IOC and international organizations to call upon the Chinese Communist regime to stop the persecution of Falun Gong supporters before the Beijing Olympics.
CIPFG is composed of more than 400 social elites including politicians, lawyers, doctors, media staff and so on. The group hopes that the EU will attach importance to the public opinion that the petition campaign represents. At the same time, the group hopes that the EU will provide effective assistance in demanding that Beijing immediately stop the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners.
