Today's report relates persecution incidents that involve 24 cities or counties in 12 provinces. Thirty-one Falun Gong practitioners were subjected to brutal treatment during detention, and at least 16 practitioners were arrested.

1. [Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province] Ms. Zhang Yuzhen is Being Held at the Jiangxi Province Women's Forced Labor Camp

Ms. Zhang Yuzhen, in her 40s, is presently being held at the Jiangxi Province Women's Forced Labor Camp. Two drug abuser inmates monitor her around the clock.

Ms. Zhang attended a press conference in November 2000 to clarify the truth about Falun Gong. Later on she was sentenced to six years in prison. Ms. Zhang was tortured in Jiangxi Province Women's Forced Labor Camp and one of her hands was disabled as a result.

She was supposed to be released on November 10, 2006 but was sentenced to an additional three years of forced labor.

2. [Hulan City, Heilongjiang Province] Mr. Qian Houmin Stages a Persecution-Protest Hunger Strike

Guard Nan Ming from the Hulan City Prison Hospital in Heilongjiang Province confiscated one of Mr. Qian Houmin's Falun Gong books. Mr. Qian has been on a hunger strike for 14 days and is extremely weak.

Nan Ming had also confiscated Falun Gong books and 200 yuan from Mr. Jin Chengshan, who is disabled, in July 2007.

3. [Liaoning Province] Mr. Liu Qinghua and Mr. Meng Xiangchen Persecuted

Mr. Liu Qinghua and Mr. Meng Xiangchen were arrested and taken to the Changtu County Detention Center on May 4, 2007 for distributing truth-clarification materials in Maojiadian Town, Changtu County, Liaoning Province. Mr. Liu was initially transferred to the Shenyang City Prison Complex in October 2007 and then to the No.5 Ward of Panjin City Prison in November 2007. He suffers from hepatocirrhosis (a disease of the liver) and is extremely weak.

Mr. Meng was transferred to the Shenyang City Prison Complex in September 2007 and then to Kangping Prison in October 2007. He was later transferred to Huolongzhai Prison in the Xihu District of Benxi City, Liaoning Province.

4. [Shanghai] Several Practitioners Arrested for Watching the Chinese New Year Show

Personnel from the Shanghai 610 Office arrested 17 practitioners in February 2008. Six practitioners who have been released are: Ms. Liu Chenmei, Ms. Li, Ms. Zhang Rongzhu, Ms. Gao Qiudi, Ms. Jin Yuehua and a practitioner from New Wuning Village. Ms. Gao Lingdi is being held in a brainwashing center. Ms. Zhou Chengying, Ms. Jin Runfang and her husband and son, and Mr. Ma Guobiao are presently being held at the Jiading Detention Center.

5. [Shan County, Shandong Province] Police Arrest Mr. Zhou Ping

Shan County Domestic Security Division Chief Wang Yangui and several officers from the county police department arrested Mr. Zhou Ping at 4:00 p.m. on March 31, 2008. They ransacked his home and took him to the Police Dog Base in the county police department.

6. [Dalian City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Yuan Yizhi Sentenced to One Year of Forced Labor

Officers from the Ganjingzi Domestic Security Division and the Xinghua Street Police Station arrested Ms. Yuan Yizhi from the Ganjingzi District, Dalian City on October 21, 2007. Ms. Yuan is presently being held at the No.8 Division of Dalian City Forced Labor Camp.

Ms. Yuan, the mother of a two-year-old child, has parents in their 70s. Her mother is paralyzed and cannot take care of herself.

7. [Jinan City, Shandong Province] Tianqiao District Court Agents Planned to Hold Another Trial for Mr. Ba Shuqun at 9:30 a.m. on April 1, 2008

8. [Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province] Officers from the Taihe District Police Department Harass Falun Gong Practitioners

Officers from the Xijiao Police Station harassed Ms. Li Fengqiu's brother and attempted to arrest Ms. Li.

Officers from the Xiaolingzi Police Station went to Ms. Li Guiqin's home in the No. 155 Factory dormitory several times. They also harassed Ms. Wang San at her home as well as Ms. Guan Liqin through making harassing phone calls.

Officers from the Taihe District Police Department arrested Ms. Dong Huifang from Xutun Village, Yingpan Township, Taihe District on March 6, 2008.

9. [Dezhou City, Shandong Province] Ms. Huang Yuping Arrested

Officers from the Dezhou City Police Department arrested 50-year-old Ms. Huang Yuping on the morning of March 31, 2008.

Prior to this incident, Ms. Huang had been sentenced to forced labor twice. She lives in her sister's home and takes care of their 80-year-old father.

10. [Jinan City, Shandong Province] Ms. Chen Ying Arrested

Officers from the Luneng Property Company and from the Lixia District 610 Office arrested Ms. Chen Ying and took her to the Liuchangshan Brainwashing Center on the afternoon of March 21, 2008. Ms. Chen used to be the director of the company's Electricity Group Kindergarten. She worked hard and the children and their parents had accepted her kindly. Unfortunately, Ms. Chen was reported to the police last summer and was held to a brainwashing center for a month. Later on she was demoted to having to work in the kindergarten's cafeteria.

11. [Nanchong City, Sichuan Province] Ms. Zhao Deqiong Arrested

Sixty-year-old Ms. Zhao Deqiong from the Shunqing District of Nanchong City was arrested in Xiaolong Town, Gaoping District, Nanchong City on February 29, 2008. The police officers ransacked her home. Personnel from the Refinery Company's residential dorm burned all of the confiscated Falun Gong truth-clarification materials the next morning. Ms. Zhao is presently being held at the Gaoping District Detention Center.

12. [Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province] Mr. Cai Huarong and Mr. Li Aihua Arrested

Personnel from the Xiangzhou District Court in Zhuhai City tried Mr. Cai Huarong and Mr. Li Aihua at 3:30 p.m. on March 31, 2008, but they did not reach a verdict. The judge ordered another trial date.

13. [Lanzhou City, Gansu Province] Ms. Yue Mei Arrested

Sixty-year-old Ms. Yue Mei has lived away from home for several years. She returned home for her son's wedding ceremony on March 22, 2008, but the police arrested her immediately.

14. [Dalian City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Li Hong Arrested

Ms. Li Hong was reported to the police at 1:00 p.m. on March 30, 2008 for clarifying the facts about Falun Gong. Police officers arrested her and ransacked her home. They confiscated her Falun Gong books and some CDs. Ms. Li is presently being held at the Jinjia Street Detention Center.

15. [Songyuan City, Jilin Province] Ms. Leng Zhenhui Arrested

Mr. Leng Zhenhui is from the Dongchangtuozitun Team of Changtuozi Village, Taohaotai Township in Qianguo County, Songyuan City. He is living temporarily in his brother's home. Six policemen broke into the house and arrested him and his wife at 8:00 p.m. on March 3, 2008. They confiscated two Falun Gong books and several pieces of Dafa material. Mr. Leng's wife went to the detention center to visit him, but was forbidden to see him.

Mr. Leng had previously been sentenced to one year of forced labor, in 2001. Personnel from the Songyuan City 610 Office ransacked his home and confiscated some truth-clarification materials in the summer of 2007.

16. [Beijing] Several Practitioners Arrested

A 70-year-old practitioner from Chongwen District was arrested at 8:00 a.m. on March 1, 2008 while shopping in a market. She was released on March 19, 2008 after the Chinese Communist Party's two conferences ended on March 18, 2008. The elderly female practitioner was held at the Xiaotangshan Detention Center in Changping County. Several other practitioners were also held there.

17. [Shenze County, Hebei Province] Mr. Zhang Zhaofeng Sentenced to Three and a Half Years in Prison

18. [Beijing] Correction Regarding the Arrest of Ms. Liu Chunling

Officers from the Andingmen Police Station arrested Ms. Liu Chunling when she was distributing Falun Gong truth-clarification materials near her home. Her family was informed that Ms. Liu had been sentenced to two years of forced labor.

19. [Mudanjiang City, Heilongjiang Province] Four Policemen Arrested Ms. Zhang Yuxiang at 6:00 a.m. on April 1, 2008

20. [Zhaoyuan City, Shandong Province] Mr. Wen Jianhui Sentenced to One Year of Forced Labor

Mr. Wen Jianhui from Shilipu Village, Zhaoyuan City was sentenced to one year of forced labor. Policemen from the city's 610 Office pressured Mr. Wen's family to sign the verdict papers on March 3, 2008.

Li Jianguang from the 610 Office and a dozen officers from the Mengzhi Police Station broke into Mr. Wen's home on the night of December 14, 2007. They confiscated about 7,000 yuan and some Falun Gong truth-clarification materials.

Mr. Wen had previously been arrested for appealing in Beijing and sentenced to three years of forced labor.

21. [Shuangyashan City, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Zhang Li Stages a Hunger Strike

Ms. Zhang Li from Shuangyashan City has been held in the Harbin City Women's Prison for six years. She began a hunger strike on March 7, 2008.

22. [Jiutai City, Heilongjiang Province] Mr. Zhang Guozhi Sentenced to Forced Labor

Mr. Zhang Guozhi from Xinkai Village, Qingyang Township, Jiutai City clarified the facts about Falun Gong on February 17, 2008. Officers from the city police department arrested him and sentenced him to one and a half years of forced labor, to be served in the Yingmahe Forced Labor Camp. His family went to visit him, but camp deputy chief Zhang Guohui refused their visit, justifying it by saying that Mr. Zhang had not given up practicing Falun Gong.

23. [Zhulu County, Hebei Province] Four Practitioners' Homes Ransacked

Four practitioners' homes in Kouqian Village, Heishanshi Township, Zhuolu County were ransacked on March 7, 2008.

24. [Raoyang County, Hebei Province] Official Xiong Fei Persecutes Practitioners

Xiong Fei, an official from Bao Village, Liman Township, Raoyang County, harassed practitioners in Nanhan Village. He claimed he would confiscate all satellite dishes that received New Tang Dynasty Television programs. Xiong Fei had already ransacked several practitioners' homes and detained them at the township police station.

25. [Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province] Ms. Lu Shengling's Home Ransacked

Four officers including Huang Yingdong from the Duzhuang Township Police Station in Funing County, Qinghuangdao City broke into Ms. Lu Shengling's home at 11:00 a.m. on March 24, 2008. They arrested her and confiscated 200 yuan in cash. Ms. Lu was released at 3:00 p.m. that day.

26. [Jilin Province] Officers from the Qian'an County Police Department Harass Practitioners

Officers from the Qian'an County Police Department Domestic Security Division harassed practitioners in the guise of assuring the security of the Olympic Games. They forced practitioners to sign guarantee statements and be fingerprinted or photographed.

27. [Xinxiang City, Henan Province] Ms. Yu Arrested

Officers from the Eastern Avenue Police Station in the Hongqi District, Xinxiang City arrested Ms. Yun at 5:00 p.m. on March 30, 2008. The arrest took place as Ms. Yun was distributing truth-clarification materials.

28. [Chongqing] Ms. Wu Bangying and Ms. Wang Subi Arrested

Police officers arrested Ms. Wu Bangying and Ms. Wang Subi, retired teachers from the Chongqing City No. 18 Middle School, at 5:00 p.m. on March 31, 2008.

29. [Xiangfan City, Hubei Province] Mr. Chen Xinan Arrested

Officers from the Hanjiang Police Station arrested Mr. Chen Xinan, an employee of the Hanjiang Factory in Xiangfan City, on the night of March 30, 2008. Mr. Chen is presently being held at the Hanjiang Police Station.

30. [Chengdu City, Sichuan Province] Ms. Shen Shufang Arrested

Four policemen broke into 60-year-old Ms. Shen Shufang's home at 2:00 p.m. on September 30, 2007. They took her to a brainwashing center and ordered two individuals to monitor her around the clock.

31. [Xiangtan City, Hunan Province] Mr. Zhang Junjie Arrested

Officers from the Xiangtan City Domestic Security Division arrested 73-year-old Mr. Zhang Junjie at his home and ransacked the place at 9:00 p.m. on March 28, 2008. They confiscated Mr. Zhang's granddaughter's computer.
