(Clearwisdom.net) I have noticed recently that many practitioners around me appear to be self-centered and are attached to what "I" want to do and what "I" want to show, and their thinking is "I" am saving people, and "I" am validating the Fa.
Master taught us,
"As a matter of fact, for cultivators in the past to say, "I'm doing such and such," "I want to do such and such," "I want to obtain such and such," "I'm cultivating," "I want to become a Buddha," or "I wish to attain such and such," none of that was outside of selfishness. But what I want you to do is to truly, purely, and unselfishly Consummate with the real righteous Fa and righteous Enlightenment--only then can you achieve eternal non-extinction." (Teaching the Fa at the Conference in Switzerland, 1998)
Master's teaching has pointed out a deeper principle. Even when we are doing the most divine things, when the emphasis is on "my Xinxing, "my enlightenment, "my wisdom," then these are ego-based and selfish. Only by achieving a state of selflessness will we be able to see the sufferings and pains of others.
Unless all of us can look at the broader picture, we will miss the target; seeing what sentient beings need, what others need. For example, in a nearby city, no one was editing truth-clarifying materials. In such a case, we will try to help. If efforts to clarify the truth in the countryside are insufficient, we all think about how to do better. If we can all think and act like that, the effect of our efforts to save sentient beings will be better. We will work more efficiently and will cover more areas to more effectively meet our historic responsibilities.
