Critic Bob Bows of Variety magazine

Bob Bows is a critic for Variety magazine, and he also writes critiques on shows in Hollywood and Broadway for the Denver Post. After seeing the Chinese New Year Spectacular show, he said, "I think it is a good integration with diverse cultural elements in one show."

He said he liked the show, including the splendid colors, beautiful dancing, and programs about Buddhas, Daos, and Falun Gong. He indicated that stressing morality in the show was very good.

He continued by saying that the traditional dancing, the performance skills, and the instrumental performances were all very good, and that the tenor and soprano were highly skilled. He liked having the English translations shown on the backdrop.

He pointed out that he has listened to many operas before, and he felt that the solos in this show were awesome. The sound of the singers was powerful, and could be heard in any part of the theater without amplification.

He said that materialism prevails everywhere nowadays, and there is not much difference between capitalism and communism. He feels that it is impossible for everyone to obtain happiness through pursuing material enjoyment, and that sooner or later, human beings need to transcend it to make progress. Thus he thought that the message of the show plays a good role for the Western audience.

He said he liked the traditional music, as he practiced yoga for forty years and studied many religions.

He said that the Chinese culture is the oldest and most mysterious on this planet, not only in art, but in medicine and other aspects.

The Chinese New Year Spectacular show was scheduled to continue at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday January 12, in Denver. Ticket hotline: 1-866-464-2626, or visit www.ticketswest.com.
