Mr. Zhao Yiwen, from Bamiantong, Heilongjiang Province, worked as an art teacher. Mr. Zhao had been disabled before he practiced Falun Dafa. After he began studying Falun Dafa and doing the five exercises, he regained his health and went back to work. The Chinese Communist Party’s persecution of Falun Gong later destroyed his family. His son, Zhao Yuzhi, was in middle school and could not endure the repeated harassment by the police: Yuzhi committed suicide.

His son was only about seven years old when Zhao suddenly became too ill to work due to problems with his spine. This left his family with financial difficulties. In 1995, Zhao started practicing Falun Gong and his herniated discs magically healed. Zhao no longer needed to use a cane. Zhao's son Yuzhi became very excited and often went with his father to do the Falun Gong exercises and to study the Fa.

In July 1999, the CCP started the persecution against Falun Gong. Zhao validated the Fa by telling people about his experiences and by clarifying the truth about the persecution. In fall of 2000, while Mr. Zhao was in Bamiantong, Heilongjiang Province making truth-clarification materials, officers from the Yilin Police Station arrested him, but he escaped and went to stay with his mother in Jixi City.

During the end of 2000, Tan Zhenguo, an officer from Xiangdong Police Station of Muling Minet in Jixi City, broke into Mr. Zhao's mother's house with seven other people and attempted to arrest Mr. Zhao. He was not there at the time.

On January 23, 2001, three officers from the Xiangdong Police Station again broke into Mr. Zhao's mother's house looking for him. Again, he was not there. On January 30 and 31, the same officers went back twice more asking for him. These people continued to go to Mr. Zhao's mother's house to harass the family. One day in July 2001, someone reported to the police that Mr. Zhao's wife and son were now living with Zhao's mother. Tan Zhenguo and three other officers from the Xiangdong Police Station of the Muling Mine went to arrest them, but did not succeed.

In August 2001, the Xiangdong Police Station arrested Mr. Zhao's wife, Ms. Sun Chunzhi (not a practitioner), for "hiding criminals." The police handcuffed Chunzhi to a pipe and tried to coerce her into informing on her husband’s whereabouts. Chunzhi was illegally detained for a day, and Mr. Zhao's mother had to pay 500 yuan for her release. Mr. Zhao then had to leave his family.

In February 2004, Zhao's parents asked Sun Chunzhi to look for Zhao Yiwen, and she did. Since then, Mr. Zhao and his wife could no longer stay with the other family members.

Mr. Zhao's parents and his son, Zhao Yuzhi, were harassed by the police over and over again and suffered very much. Pressure from society and his school and the loss of his parents created tremendous psychological and emotional trauma for Yuzhi. Zhao Yuzhi nearly had a mental breakdown. For him, the world was full of terror, and he lost his faith. On September 20, 2004, Zhao Yuzhi hung himself. Zhao Yuzhi's grandparents could not bear the grief and sorrow of losing their grandson and being separated from their son and became very ill. A fine family was destroyed because of the CCP's persecution.
