Office of the President
Borough of Brooklyn
City of New York

Proclamation

Whereas, Brooklyn is home to everyone from everywhere, our borough is proud to be the fastest-growing Chinese community in New York City -- whose entrepreneurial and academic excellence are models of success, and whose cultural riches add great texture to our borough's special quality of life -- and it is time-honored tradition to recognize the outstanding contributions made by Chinese Americans, so it is only fitting that we recognize the efforts of those dedicated community groups that demonstrate a commitment to the welfare of their fellow citizens and join them in making the important milestones and special events in our communities; and

Whereas, New Tang Dynasty Television -- a non-profit Chinese language broadcast television company that covers North America, Asia, Europe, and Australia with a wide range of cultural, leisure, political, and news programs -- and Divine Performing Arts -- an organization of dancers trained in both ballet and classical Chinese dance who perform to rediscover and present the essence of true, traditional culture to bring arts to the world that celebrate human dignity and positive values -- join together at The Beacon Theatre in Harlem to showcase "Holiday Wonders," the best in traditional Chinese culture -- a show that blends the divine charm of the East with the holiday spirit of the West through music and dance; and

Whereas, on behalf of all Brooklynites, I salute New Tang Dynasty Television, President Zhong Lee, the organizing committee, and staff, and Divine Performing Arts including the artists -- soloists, choreographers, composers, principal dancers, orchestra, and artistic staff -- as they host "Holiday Wonders," I commend them for sharing the unique and beautiful heritage of Chinese culture, mixed with some flavor of the West through music and dance, and I thank all those in the Chinese community for their immeasurable contributions to the rich history and vitality of Brooklyn, New York City, and beyond;

Now, therefore, I, Marty Markowitz, President of the Borough of Brooklyn, do hereby proclaim Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

New Tang Dynasty Television and Divine Performing Arts
"Holiday Wonders" Showcase Celebration Day in Brooklyn, USA

In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Borough of Brooklyn to be affixed this 18th day of December, 2007
