(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Qiu Liying is a Falun Gong practitioner from Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province who used to be an employee at a local oil refinery. On September 26, 2007, Ms. Qiu sat in the audience in an unlawful court trial against a fellow Falun Gong practitioner named Li Xiumin (female). The next morning, the local police unlawfully arrested her and took her to Sifang Police Station. Later the police and staff members from the residence committee of the oil refinery pried open Ms. Qiu Liying's door and looted her personal belongings including her PC. On the morning of September 28, 2007, the police transferred Ms. Qiu to a brainwashing center in the capital of Hebei Province.

Ms. Qiu has been on a hunger strike to protest the unlawful detention for eight days at the time of this writing. Her health is in jeopardy. We urge people inside and outside of China to pay attention to her unlawful detention and help rescue her from incarceration.

On April 27, 2007, Shijiazhuang Mid-Level Court held an unlawful trial against Ms. Wang Bo and her parents. It was an open trial that everyone was allowed to attend. On April 26, 27 people applied for a permit to sit in on the trial. That night, the local police went to the homes of the 27 people to harass, threaten and/or limit their personal freedom. The trial was held on schedule the next day, but the entrance of the court was heavily guarded. In fact, the court was swarming with policemen. At 8:20 a.m., Ms. Qiu showed the police the permit issued by Shijiazhuang Mid-Level Court to sit in on the trial. But bailiffs and the local police questioned Ms. Qiu when she was entering the court while their colleagues called the local police for backup. A bailiff even tore up Ms. Qiu's permit. The backup police arrived quickly and stormed into the court. They unlawfully arrested Ms. Qiu with violence and incarcerated her in a local hotel.

After a week, the bruises on Ms. Qiu Liying's right arm were still visible. Ms. Qiu questioned the police at the time, "If you were really performing your duty, why didn't you take me back to the police station? Why did you take me to a hotel?" The police argued, "It's because we are being nice to you." When asked about the reason for the unlawful arrest, the police could not give a straight answer and told Ms. Qiu that it was "an order from their boss." She was kept in the hotel until past 11:00 a.m. Finally the police released her after they received an order.

It is one of the basic human rights stipulated in the Chinese Constitution that a Chinese citizen may sit in on a public trial. But the police and bailiffs in Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province violated the law knowingly. On April 27, 2007, the police stopped Ms. Qiu from sitting in on the public trial against Ms. Wang Bo and her parents and was unlawfully arrested and detained her for more than three hours. Not long ago, the police unlawfully arrested Ms. Qiu again when she attended the public trial against another Falun Gong practitioner, Ms. Li Xiumin, at Xinhua District Court. The police sent Ms. Qiu to a brainwashing center in the province's capital where she was subjected to physical and psychological abuse. Ms. Qiu went on a hunger and thirst strike to protest the unlawful imprisonment, but the center does not care about her health and refuses to release her.

The aforementioned facts of persecution against Ms. Qiu illustrate the "new measurements" that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has been taking to fulfill its "pledge" to improve human rights and rules when it applied to host 2008 Olympic Games!
