They were put into a police van and taken to Chengdu City's Beijing office. On the way there, the police repeatedly punched them in the eyes. On the afternoon of December 29, 2000, Ms. You Xuewen and Ms. Yang Jiyou were transferred to Tianjin. At Tianjin Police Station, the police cursed and beat them. They also kicked Ms. You Xuewen. Later they were transferred to another detention facility. Their homes were ransacked and their families had money extorted from them as so-called "fines." Ms. Yang Jiqiong was detained for fifty days and had 3,000 yuan extorted from her. [Because her family was unable to pay for the money,] the police took her house property certificate as collateral.
