Local Falun Gong practitioners filed a criminal complaint Tuesday against visiting Chinese politician Liu Qi, who is in Israel at the invitation of Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni.

Requesting that he be arrested for crimes against humanity, the Israeli Falun Dafa Association said in a press release that "Israel has used international law in the past to arrest war criminals."

"He has been one of the primary people responsible for the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners," said the organization.

"Under his orders thousands of people have been persecuted to death, hundreds of thousands have been incarcerated in forced labor camps and millions have suffered persecution, physical assaults, the loss of their jobs and harassment by the authorities."

Practitioners of the ancient Chinese self-help philosophy have been banned from expressing their beliefs in the country since the late 1990s.
