Facts of the Persecution

1. The Persecution Against Practitioners Mr. Jiang Nianxiang and His Wife Xing Yuzhen

Falun Gong practitioners Mr. Jiang Nianxiang and his wife Xing Yuzhen from Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province, have repeatedly suffered from China's persecution because they are determined to practice Falun Gong. Mrs. Jiang had been subjected to gruesome tortures while in detention and was in mortal danger several times before she was finally granted a medical bail. She is very frail right now and has no source of income. Her relatives are looking after her. Her husband is illegally imprisoned in Daqing Prison. Mrs. Jiang was not allowed to visit her husband. Daqing Prison is blocking all information about Mr. Jiang so his current condition is unknown. Mr. Jiang's family and friends have written an appeal letter, asking the prosecutor to bring his torturers to justice and immediately return the couple's confiscated money and property.

2. Crimes Against Practitioners Illegally Detained in Liaoning Province Women's Prison

Liaoning Province Women's Prison was formerly known as Dabei Prison in Shenyang, Liaoning Province. Its division head Guo Haiyan (female) instigated prison inmates to beat practitioner Ms. Xu Qingfang until her body was covered with wounds and bruises and she had black eyes. In the middle of the summer, Guo Haiyan ordered prison inmates Bi Suyuan and Wang Xia (both female) to place a mask, a cotton snow hat and a cotton overcoat on practitioner Ms. Jin Cuixiang. She then had five female prison inmates beat her all at once before shocking her with electric batons. Prison inmates Cui Yanru and Hou Yan (both female) repeatedly beat up practitioner Ms. Zhang Wei and deprived her of sleep. They also wrote messages slandering Teacher and Falun Gong on the bottoms of her feet. The repeated cruel tortures eventually caused her pervious illnesses to re-surface and caused her to suffer a mental collapse. Practitioner Ms. Liu Man is forced to perform hard labor during the day and mop the floor and the corridors at night. Lately, the prison inmates have been depriving her of sleep. Practitioner Ms. Liu Meirong was forced to stand in the center of a small circle of prison guards for a long time. She passed out repeatedly but was forced to stand up again as soon as she was brought back to consciousness. Practitioner Ms. Li Guixia refused to comply with the demands of the torturers. She was brought to a small, windowless shack where a disciplinary staff member, Zhao Xiumei (female), subjected her to electric shock torture. Zhao also ordered prison inmates to repeatedly pour cold water on Ms. Li and beat her with sharp objects. Practitioner Ms. Liu Suzhi refused to memorize the regulations for the prison inmates, so she was deprived of sleep. She was also denied any visits by her family or relatives. The torturers made her sit on a small and low bench for a long duration. She was subjected to electric shocks and was deprived of the use of the toilet. Practitioner Ms. Ding Lihua went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution against her. During her hunger strike, prison inmates Liu Yan and Yu Xiaohong (both female) repeatedly beat her and tortured her.

3. Additional Crimes Committed by the Police Guards in Shayang Forced Labor Camp in Hubei Province

Lu Wenjun is the captain of the police guards at Shayang Forced Labor Camp in Hubei Province. He has been secretly giving meager food rations to practitioners illegally detained there. Lu Wenjun is the one of the primary people who persecuted practitioner Mr. Zheng Dejun. The Ninth Squadron at Shayang Forced Labor Camp occupies the east and west corridors of the building. The Intensive Torture Team of the Ninth Squadron is stationed in the east corridor and is currently watching practitioner Mr. Qiao Zuoquan, who is from Jingmen. The Intensive Torture Team in the west corridor is now torturing the following practitioners: Mr. Zhang Long from Shiyan, Mr. Wang Yuanhong from Xiangfan, and Mr. Zhou Yuantao from Xiangfan. Of all the practitioners detained in the west corridor, Mr. Zheng Dejun from Yichang, Mr. Peng Hongdao from Chibi and Mr. Zhu from Zhongxiang face the most attention and torture. Mr. Zheng Dejun has never once given in, and he has been subjected to the mind-grinding torture of solitary confinement (1). The prison police tortured him with many abhorrent torture methods, such as total sleep deprivation (2). For one full month, they forced him to watch video programs that attack Falun Gong during the daytime and forced him to listen to audio recordings of the prison regulations at night. Although they failed to make Mr. Zheng Dejun give in, the prison inmates who assisted in the torture collapsed. Mr. Zheng is in a terrible state right now. The camp is planning to extend his prison term.

4. Masanjia Forced Labor Camp Continues to Torture Practitioners

Wang Xiaofeng is the captain of the First Squadron of Masanjia Forced Labor Camp. Huang Haiyan and Cui Hong were the prison guards from the Third and Fourth Divisions respectively. Liu Hui is a prison guard from the Fifth Division. These four women are most active in torturing practitioners. They have repeatedly extended the prison terms of the following practitioners: Ms. Sheng Lixia, Ms. Liu Xiuyan, Ms. Zhu Yun, Ms. Geng Yulan, Ms. Song Ailian, Ms. Zhang Xiumin, Ms. Gao Fuling, and Ms. Wang Huinan, and have subjected these practitioners to the cruel mental and physical torture of solitary confinement. They don't think twice about torturing those extremely frail practitioners that have been on hunger strikes to protest the illegal detention and tortures. These practitioners were allowed only three trips to the bathroom per day but were not allowed to wash or take a shower. During their solitary confinement, they were also subjected to high-volume noise. Each solitary confinement lasted 10, 15, or 30 days, and sometimes even months. For those practitioners who went on hunger strikes to protest during their solitary confinements, the prison guards threw them on the cold concrete floor and stepped on their limbs before torturing them with abusive force-feeding. They even added a large quantity of salt and drugs to the food (3).

Notes:

  1. Solitary confinement is a punishment in which a person is denied contact with any other persons, excluding guards. The effects of this isolation are severe, and the deprivation often causes effects similar to those with grave mental illness. Solitary confinement is considered by some to be cruel and unusual punishment, because of its severe effects on a person's mental state.
  2. Deprivation of sleep may also result in irritability, blurred vision, slurred speech, memory lapses, overall confusion, hallucination, nausea, psychosis, and eventually death.
  3. Force-feeding a large quantity of salt causes intense pain in the abdomen. Many practitioners have died from the resulting dehydration. It proves that the purpose of the force-feeding is never to nourish, but rather to punish practitioners and to cause so much pain that they will renounce Falun Gong practice. Forced-feeding is the number one cause of deaths of Falun Gong practitioners.
