The lawyer representing a potential third Chinese defector says his client has compelling and horrifying information about Chinese Government surveillance and torture of Falun Gong members.

Bernard Collaery says his client's identity will remain secret for some time because of fears for his family in China.

Mr Collaery says his evidence is more compelling than that of other would-be defectors, Chen Yonglin and Hao Fengjun, who have come forward.

He says it can prove the existence of the 610 office of the National Security Bureau monitoring the spiritual group.

Mr Collaery says his client has seen some horrific things.

"The evidence that he offers is much more valuable to the world community than anyone else," he said.

"It's much more horrifying but unfortunately it could have equally horrifying results because his family live in a town ruled the gestapo."
