The forced labor camps of Jiujiang City in Jiangxi Province claim that they are places for "educating people, helping people and saving people." In reality, however, when Falun Dafa practitioners refuse to accept the brainwashing and refuse to be "transformed," they are brutally beaten and hung up in the air for extended periods of time. Practitioner Mr. Zhou Youfu, who was a worker in the Ruichang City Linen Fabrics Factory, endured an extended period of severe torture when he was held in the forced labor camp, and his mind and body both suffered great damage. He was mentally traumatized and still has not recovered.

The brutal torture methods used in the forced labor camps of Jiujiang City include the so-called "long-term hang up" (1). Both hands of the practitioners are hung up either vertically from a window frame, or they are pulled horizontally to form the shape of a cross with the body as the vertical line. In both positions the tips of the feet barely touch the ground. The practitioners are not released even to use the bathroom. They are hung up in such positions for as long as several days.

Practitioner Mr. Huang Chaowu was illegally detained three times. On December 3, 2003, Mr. Huang was arrested by police officers when he was distributing truth-clarification materials. He protested the persecution by going on a hunger strike for fifteen days in a Ruichang City detention center. He was then illegally sentenced to a forced labor camp for 22 months (later the term was extended by one month). When he was held in the Third Division of the Jiujiang City Forced Labor Camp he was pressured to write the so-called repentance statement, so he went on another hunger strike to protest the persecution. A camp guard named Chen (last name, male) and others tortured him with force-feeding. This broke two of his front teeth. The guards also tortured him with sleep deprivation at night and forced labor during the day. They forced him to watch videos that defamed Falun Dafa and Teacher. They also instigated the inmates to brainwash him. Later Chen sent Mr. Huang to the Second Division of the Jiujiang City Forced Labor Camp for advanced torture. Another guard named Deng (last name, male) ordered Mr. Huang to write the "repentance statement." Mr. Huang refused and told him that there was nothing wrong with practicing cultivation. As a result, Mr. Huang suffered even more severe torture. Deng instigated inmates Yang (last name, male) and Li (last name, male) to brainwash Mr. Huang, and to force him to stand up facing the wall for an extended period of time, as well as to hang him up in the air under the window with both feet not touching the ground.

Before long Mr. Huang passed out. Some inmates splashed cold water onto Mr. Huang to revive him. Mr. Huang Chaowu was hung up in the air for the whole afternoon. His hands were numb and swollen with yellow blisters, and his whole body was shaking. Both feet were also swollen. Later he was sent to the clinic to be treated, but he had to pay for the treatment himself. After twenty days of treatment, he only recovered slightly. Now Mr. Huang Chaowu's hands are full of scars, and his fingers are deformed and non-functioning. He is having difficulty walking.

The authorities still refused to release him. They extended his detention for another month before he was released. They threatened him not to tell anyone what was happening in the forced labor camp.

Practitioner Mr. Mao Rulun from Jiujiang City, sixty-six years old, was illegally sentenced to forced labor for two years in March 2001. He was held and tortured in the Majialong Forced Labor Camp of Jiujiang City. Camp guard Deng Chengsong (male) instigated inmate Wu Binlin (male) to torture Mr. Mao. They hung Mr. Mao Rulun up in the air at the window with the tips of his feet barely touching the ground. Wu wet the ground bricks and pasted soap over the bricks so that as soon as the tips of his feet touched the ground, his feet would slide. They also used a wooden board to hit Mr. Mao Rulun's "knee reflex nerve" located below the kneecap. They hung Mr. Mao up in the air for three consecutive days with neither food nor drink. Later they hung him up in the air with both of his hands handcuffed behind his back. Mr. Mao Rulun weighed about 187 pounds when he was hung up on the window. The handcuffs cut into his flesh, causing severe injury to his wrists. After Mr. Mao Rulin was released, he failed to recover. He passed away on February 11, 2005.

(1) Practitioners' hands are tied with thin ropes and then they are hung up for several hours, or even several days. Sometimes, the rope is so tight it breaks; and sometimes the ropes cut into the flesh. Some practitioners lose consciousness while being hung up. In many cases, the practitioners are hung by the handcuffs, leading to broken bones.
