After Two Years of Imprisonment, Nine Beijing Dafa Practitioners Receive Severe Illegal Sentences

(Clearwisdom.net) Recently, after being incarcerated for two years, nine Beijing Dafa practitioners have received unlawful and severe prison sentences. Mr. Wang Yi, Ms. Dan Ling, Mr. Zhang Zhenzhong, Mr. Zhang Hongru, Mr. Li Hai, Mr. Jin Yuantao, Ms. Xu Ruohui, Mr. Guo Weimin and Ms. Bai Lili are currently at the Beijing City Detention Center, but they will be transferred shortly to Daxing Section's Tuanhe Dispatching Station. Practitioners registered as Beijing natives are to remain in the prison of the Dispatching Station, while the remaining practitioners are to be sent back to their respective hometowns.

The Second Branch of the Beijing City People's Procuratorate proposed to try publicly the nine Dafa practitioners, and the Beijing City Second Intermediate People's Court then commenced with this so-called "public trial" without notifying the relatives of the defendants (only a public notice was actually posted). The practitioners were also assigned lawyers who were barred from "defending under the plea of not guilty," so the lawyers could only defend their defendants based on guilty pleas.

Dafa practitioners Wang Yi, Dan Ling, Zhang Zhenzhong and Zhang Hongru refused the assigned lawyers and defended themselves.

After the nine Dafa practitioners were illegally found guilty of "utilizing a cult organization to break the law," they did not accept this verdict and appealed at the Beijing City High Court, where their appeals were refuted and the assigned lawyers' opinions disregarded. This second trial was also not public, and the guilty verdict was not repealed.

The practitioners' circumstances are as follows:

1. Mr. Wang Yi, 34 years old, Han nationality. Highest Level of Education: University undergraduate. Household registration: Beijing.

Wang, incarcerated since June 2002, was illegally sentenced to thirteen years of imprisonment. He was also given an additional two year sentence and a 4,000 yuan fine under the verdict of having "organized others to cross the border without authorization."

2. Ms. Dan Ling, 48 years old, Han nationality. Highest Level of Education: Graduate school, Master's degree. Household registration: Beijing, professor at both the Xiehe Medical School and China Medical and Science Institute.

Dan, detained since August 2002, was sentenced to another twelve years of imprisonment.

3. Mr. Zhang Zhenzhong, 32 years old. Highest Level of Education: Middle school. Household registration: Beijing.

Zhang, in detention since August 2002, has been given a twelve-year prison sentence.

4. Mr. Zhang Hongru, 32 years old. Highest Level of Education: University undergraduate. Household registration: Beijing.

Zhang, imprisoned since August 2002, was sentenced to eleven years of further imprisonment.

5. Mr. Li Hai, 31 years old. Highest Level of Education: Graduate school, Master's degree. Household registration: Beijing.

Li, imprisoned since November 2002, was sentenced to nine years of imprisonment.

6. Jin Yuantao, 31 years old. Highest Level of Education: University undergraduate. Household registration: Beijing.

Jin, detained since August 2002, was sentenced to eleven years and six months of further imprisonment.

7. Mr. Xu Ruohui, 36 years old. Highest Level of Education: University undergraduate. Household registration: Beijing.

Xu, detained since August 2002, was sentenced to ten years of imprisonment.

8. Mr. Guo Weimin, 35 years old. Highest Level of Education: University undergraduate. Household registration: Beijing.

Guo, incarcerated since August 2002, was given a ten-year prison sentence.

9. Ms. Bai Lili, 50 years old. Highest Level of Education: High school. Household registration: 27 Dongjian Hutong, Qiaoxi Section, Shijiazhuang City.

Bai, imprisoned since August 2002, was sentenced to three years of imprisonment.

Every one of these Dafa practitioners is a law-abiding citizen and a productive member of society. Yet Jiang's followers recklessly trampled on their rights, imposed false charges, and passed unjust verdicts. I hope that all practitioners will work as one body to rescue these practitioners, suppress the evil, and clarify the truth.
