(Clearwidom.net) On July 20, 1999, the former Chinese leader Jiang Zemin began a nationwide persecution of Falun Gong. Five years have passed since and today there are over 1,000 documented cases of practitioners being tortured to death for practicing Falun Gong.

In order to draw people's attention, practitioners in Gothenburg held three days of activities to inform the public about the crimes against human rights carried out by the Chinese authorities. In Bältesspännarparken (a park) practitioners held a realistic live torture reenactment exhibition that illustrated some of the means used by Chinese police to torture Falun Gong practitioners. One practitioner had been locked inside a small cage. A second one had sharp bamboo sticks pressed in under his nails and a third one had been hung up and beaten. After seeing the exhibition, many people immediately signed a petition in support of the persecuted Chinese practitioners.

Practitioners also delivered speeches where they explained the background and facts about the persecution and the reason for their activities. Some practitioners demonstrated the exercises, in sharp contrast to the savage torture. There was also a performance by the lead singer in the band Yellow Express, who sang songs about the persecution and about practicing Falun Dafa.
