(Clearwisdom.net) Six Falun Gong practitioners detained at the Liuchangshan Labor Camp in Jinan City, Shandong Province gained their release with strong righteous thoughts. They told everyone they could about the true nature of Falun Gong and the illegal persecution. They also went on extended hunger strikes.
Duan Shuonan, thirty-five years old, was a graduate student in medical school. Because he appealed to the government regarding Falun Gong, in 2000 he was sentenced to three years of forced labor education. To protest the persecution launched by Jiang's regime, he went on a hunger strike for six months starting in the fall of 2002. He used every opportunity to clarify the truth to people around him, and his strong determination frightened the evildoers. Wang Haogui, fifty years old, a farmer from the Licheng area in Jinan, was sentenced to three years in labor camp because he appealed for Falun Gong. On May 8, 2003, Duan and Wang were both unconditionally released. They were very weak physically at the time of their release.
Du Wanxin, fifty years old, is a farmer from Zhangqiu City in Jinan. He was sentenced to three years in labor camp because of appealing for Falun Gong. Zhu Xiaodong, thirty-three years old, used to work at Qilu Hotel. Because he clarified the truth about the persecution of Falun Gong, he was sentenced to one year in labor camp. To protest the torture of practitioners, they both went on a six-month hunger strike and did not cooperate with their persecutors. During the hunger strike, despite the fact that Du Wanxin was very weak, the deputy captain of the 3rd Brigade Bao Hongxing, who had been the lead person at the camp that tortured Falun Gong practitioners, abused him at the 1st Brigade office and incited Zhao Shutong, Director of the Reeducation Office of the 3rd Brigade, to shock Du's fingers with electric batons. Policeman Zhang Wei, Assistant Director of the 1st Division of the 3rd Brigade, kicked Du Wanxin during the torture session. Du Zhaojun, Director of the 1st Division of the 3rd Brigade, witnessed the scene. Du Wanxin and Zhu Xiaodong were released in October of 2003 and February of 2004, respectively.
Zhang Kuifu, fifty years old, used to work at a supermarket in Jinan City. He was sentenced to three years in labor camp because of appealing for Falun Gong. He firmly resisted the violations of his rights and consistently clarified the truth to the police. He went on a hunger strike on May 13, 2003 and continued until he was released after the spring festival of 2004.
Zhang Xingwu, sixty-one years old, was a professor at Jinan Education University. He was sentenced to three years in a labor camp because of appealing. Despite his age, police sent him to the notorious Wangchun Labor Camp in Zibo City, Shandong Province to be brainwashed. The cruel environment there did not shake Professor Zhang's determination. He was released after the spring festival of 2004.
