(Clearwisdom.net) Recently I have been memorizing the scriptures in Essentials for Further Advancement that target attachments that I find hard to relinquish.
I discovered that I could easily suppress attachments, which I previously found hard to let go of, with strong righteous thoughts a few days after memorizing "A Brief Explanation of Shan" and "Melt into the Fa." It is really wonderful being able to memorize those scriptures. While memorizing, I sometimes felt my body filled with energy because my body in another dimension was changing rapidly. I now understand why we should focus our thoughts while studying the Fa. We must focus our minds in order to memorize the Fa. There are countless Buddhas, Daos, and Gods behind each word. I realized that one doesn't obtain the Fa simply after reading the Fa. We must study the Fa with utmost respect toward the Fa in order for it to appear, and it is considered disrespectful of the Fa if we can't realize this fact. In the past, I never slacked off in studying the Fa, yet I felt that my state was not right, and I improved little. The old forces took advantage of this loophole to continuously interfere. But this was also because I had a hidden disrespect towards the Fa.
I now have a better understanding of a portion of Teacher's words from "Fa-Lecture at the Conference in Florida, U.S.A.,"
"You all know what state of mind a person must be in to see the Fa's principles. You know it without my having to say much. When your eyes read the Fa and yet your mind isn't on the Fa, think about it, aren't you reading in vain? Who are you reading for? You yourself aren't really studying the Fa, then. Haven't I told you to make sure that you yourself truly obtain gong? Then if your mind isn't on the Fa when you're studying the Fa, who are you studying it for? This isn't to criticize you--I'm just telling you that this is a really critical situation."... "If we look at it from another angle, when you study the Fa and your mind isn't on the Fa, it's not only a problem of just going through the motions, but also that the person studying the Fa is actually not being very respectful of the Fa. How could the Fa reveal itself, then? So from this angle, I think that you have to calm your mind when you study the Fa, and remember to keep your mind steady during Fa-study when you're busy."
I personally think that this is a criterion for assessing whether or not a cultivator has obtained the Fa, and is a very important factor.
The next scripture I will to memorize is "Expounding on the Fa." I feel that some of my questions originated from not having a good understanding of the Fa, and the evil thus took advantage of this.
I recall this saying from Zhuan Falun, "
'It remains a question of whether they can understand your Dafa itself while they are in the midst of confusion and tribulations.' It involves such an issue, so there will be interference and tests."
It is my personal understanding that the old forces think we obtained the Fa too easily and that whether or not we are able to understand the Fa becomes a critical issue. Therefore, cultivators must truly understand Dafa, cherish Dafa, and let go of all attachments and pursuits when studying the Fa.
