(Clearwisdom.net) Next week, practitioners in San Jose State University will hold an anti-torture exhibition and play the acclaimed film "Sandstorm" on campus to raise awareness about the ongoing brutal persecution of Falun Gong in China. The university's online calendar lists these events which are cited below.

Anti-Torture Exhibition

The exhibition displays and exposes the ongoing persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China. Several authorities use a variety of methods such as torture, beating, rape, and forced abortion on practitioners.

According to statistics from human rights group Amnesty International, there are over 1100 Falun Gong practitioners who have been killed in this persecution. Many children whose parents practice Falun Gong have become orphans. Over one million Falun Gong practitioners have been detained and with more than 100,000 being sentenced to forced labor camps, typically without trial. Other practitioners were sent to brainwashing classes and discriminated against by society, all done in attempt to force people to renounce their belief in Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance.

Sandstorm

An independent film made in Toronto to raise awareness about the persecution of Falun Gong in China; it has been shown at film festivals throughout the world, including Moscow, New York City, and India and has won 9 awards.

The film tells the story of a Chinese police officer who is trapped in a sandstorm with his dying wife for 12 days. The officer begins to recall a woman who was tortured to death in a Chinese police station for not renouncing her belief in a spiritual practice called Falun Gong.

Falun Gong is a worldwide practice followed by millions of people, including thousands in the United States. Practitioners take part in light exercises and meditation and live by a set of principles (Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance).

The House of Representatives passed a resolution last year condemning the Chinese government for harassing, imprisoning and beating members of advocacy groups, including Falun Gong practitioners, for "demonstrating peacefully inside that country."
