Master said, "If you are without the Goodness (Shan) that a Dafa disciple has, then you are not a cultivator. If a Dafa disciple cannot validate the Fa, then he is not a Dafa disciple." (On "The Dignity of Dafa") During truth clarification, I truly realized the importance of "Goodness" (Shan). While Shan must stem from the process of saving sentient beings and self-cultivation, it is the kind actions of Dafa disciples that make ordinary people believe in what Dafa disciples say.
Once, I was illegally arrested by the police and had refused to cooperate with them during their interrogations. Two policemen took turns slapping my face, but I still refused to cooperate. They chained my hands behind my back and then hung me from the door. Rather than feeling angry, I simply felt pity for them. I told them that Falun Dafa is good and that what they were doing was self-destructive.
During the second interrogation, I said to them, "Although you beat me and hung me up like that, I do not see you as enemies. Instead, I see you as someone who might still be saved by Falun Dafa. I hope that you can treat Falun Dafa and practitioners with kindness, so that your spirit will not be weeded out in the end."
At the third interrogation, I still greeted them with a smile, "Here you are again. How are you?"
This time, they said, "The fact is that we do not really want to treat you this way, but because we wear these uniforms we are obligated to do so."
I replied, "You should be responsible for your own actions. An artillery shell splits apart when it explodes and the shrapnel randomly injures people in its path. One should not allow oneself to be used as such by others, since a person, unlike an artillery shell, has a brain and can think. Right?" They all laughed and agreed.
We need to remind these beings of the kind thoughts that can still emerge from their knowing side. When I was first illegally detained, the chief "610" officer locked me onto the metal chair in his office. He ignored me and left. When he returned, I said, "Your mother, wife and sisters are all women. If someone were to treat them like this, how would you feel?"
Upon hearing this he came over, unlocked the handcuffs and placed both my hands on the right side of the chair. The cuffs were very loose. I told him, "Falun Dafa is good. Please remember 'Falun Dafa is good.'" He looked at me and was trying to say something, but could not.
During my stay in the detention center, I met many criminals. I always told them the facts about Falun Dafa and the persecution of practitioners. They would often respond with surprise and say, "If we had not seen you with our own eyes, we would have thought what was aired on television was all true." They also said that they would definitely tell their family members that Falun Dafa is good. I told them to also tell neighbors, classmates, colleagues and everyone else they knew, since that would be doing a good deed and helping to save people.
There was a girl who had been jailed for stealing, and she said, "I know from whom you learned to be so kind." When I asked, she answered, "Of course, from your Teacher." She eventually began reciting the Fa with me every day.
"You are right about that," I said. "Our Teacher taught us to be kind to all people and to always be totally benevolent toward others." There was a young guard who always liked to be next to me, because she liked to listen to what I said.
Once, when I was staying in a hotel with an older woman, she hesitated to pay her portion of the bill after I had already paid ten yuan. I said, "It is alright with me if you want to pay less. I won't haggle with you over it." She was so surprised that she quickly paid. I mentioned to her that I practiced Falun Gong and I always try to be understanding of others and always consider others first. That night, we had a long conversation during which she admitted that she had never before understood the truth about Falun Gong. She said that she now realized that everything on television was false and meant to deceive people.
I realized that every practitioner is like a window through which Falun Dafa may be viewed and judged. If you can conduct yourself well among ordinary people, then you will also do well in truth clarification and validating the Fa. However, if you do not pay attention to your behavior, the opposite will occur.
Among practitioners, there also exists the issue of being kind to each other. It is just as Teacher said, "In these situations your conduct should always show Dafa disciples' tolerance, kindness, and niceness. The next person's things are your things, and your things are his things." ("Teaching the Fa at the 2002 Washington, D.C. Fa Conference")
Fa study is extremely important. This study is the foundation of Falun Dafa disciples' doing everything well. Only through constantly studying Fa and upgrading our xinxing, will the Shan of Dafa disciples gradually become recognized by people of the world, and thus save people from the poisonous lies.
